Walking through the countryside.

You have the time to begin to notice the little surprises and begin to appreciate the simple things more than usual.

You can ride a bike, or even drive the nearby roads of el Camino de Santiago, but the experience  is not the same as the long slower walk along the way.

It has been always on my list of things to do (El Camino a Santiago).  I never did and now my legs, feet and knees have some problems,  some injuries. I do not want to be those who pay for a tour to say I did it.

Whoever said that the way is flat and no need to know Spanish was wrong.  In spots it was fairly treturous and few natives spoke anything but Spanish especially in the smaller villages.   We met many older folks along the way, including a 78yo British lady who had fallen into the river.   And many people had ankle or knee issues.  As they say, its not a race and you complete it at your own pace.   We only had 3 weeks so skipped some of the flatlands in the middle, but I would think to walk slowly and take your time at a leisurely pace would take closer to 8 weeks.
