As long as we are in this world, people will always hurt us. The world is full of pain and most people try to project their pain on others and they deliberately and sometimes, not deliberately hurt us. We are to make allowances for these errors and know that others will hurt us. This realization should not allow us to take things to heart.

It might be hard or look humanly impossible because our human instincts would always want to get angry when someone wrongs us because even the science says that for every action, there is an equal or opposite reaction. So, our human tendency would naturally want to react when we feel hurt.

Matthew 6:14&15 (NIV)
>For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

As Christians, we have been told by the Bible to forgive. When someone hurts us, it is an opportunity for us to forgive and show God's love to others. Imagine how much of hurt we have given to God and still, He loves us and forgives us. When the Bible says we were made in the image of God, it wasn't talking about the physical attributes but about the spiritual attributes of God. The Bible says we are gods, so have the ability to display the forgiving nature of God as well.

While we were yet sinners, Jesus died for us and that's God's hand of forgiveness to us. This is why it is important for us to learn how to forgive. It is to our advantage when we forgive others because we are giving the Father the opportunity to also forgive us.

Matthew 5:7 (NIV)
>Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Nothing in life is by mistake so we need to understand why God allowed that thing to happen. There is nothing that God doesn't know. Why did He allow it then? He allowed it because He wants us to learn how to forgive. 

The story of the woman caught in the very act of adultery came to mind and while others were accusing her, Jesus was busy writing on the floor. After a while He said "He who is without sin should cast the first stone." All her accusers left. God wants us to learn how to show mercy, how to forgive others even when it is not convenient and when it is not easy for us.

We are all sinners. Ecclesiastes 7:20 says
*"Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins."*

We are all sinners and we need to always remember that. If we understand the virtue that is in forgiving others, maybe we won't find it hard to forgive another person because by learning how to forgive others, we are also learning how to forgive ourselves. It is more to our advantage when we forgive them when we hold on to so much bitterness, hatred and unforgiveness.

It might be hard but it is not impossible. We have the mind of Christ, we have the renewed man of God's Spirit within us so we can learn how to forgive. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to forgive when it is becoming hard for you to. You have to be willing. The desire must be there and that's why the Bible says *"A person with a broken and a contrite heart, I will in no wise cast away."*

Try forgiveness you will be surprised how refreshing your spirit would feel.
