I remember when touch tone phones were introduced.  They were a big deal.  I still have a home phone I actually use it more than my cell phone.  (I often forget to take my cell phone with me.)  My friends and family know that calling the home phone is the best way to get in touch with me.

Phone free here, only have a landline with a cord still attached to the wall.

I get a lot of scam calls, but it's annoying sometimes because the government calls me with important issues and they have a private number.
Some companies I deal with have interstate head offices, so i have to answer each call. 

But mostly I text people or message them through Facebook or whichever app they choose to use.

yeah kinda got rid of the phone part of my life. no longer i need a phone for calls, everything i do is data these days. saying that, it's awesome to have a supercomputer in your pocket these days!

Well, I'm old enough to remember all that you pointed out but I think it was only 98 yeas ago...not 100.  
One trick we used as we traveled to check in with our families because long distance charges were expensive was to use the operator to make the call for a "person to person" request.  The operator placed the call and asked the receiving end for the name we requested (which was always our cat's name).  This let the our family know we were okay.

I don't remember our phone before I was about 7, but the house we moved into after that had a rectangular phone, tan'ish I thing, hanging on the wall.  it still had the rotary dialer and that is still what was there when I left home at 18. We loved it !  My brothers and sisters and I would all run for the phone when it rang, trying to beat the others out to get to answer. LOL !!  We never had a party line, but some of my friends were on one, so when we would talk, you never knew who else might be listening in.  Don't remember how old I was before I had the button dialer...... pretty much resisted getting a cell phone too, because the important people had my work phone number and knew not to call it just for a chat and I really didn't want to talk to anyone else until I got home ! I don't need to talk to you while I am shopping or driving or in a restaurant.... etc.  That's MY time !
