Nice shagbark. It's my first! lol and are those hickory nuts edible by humans?

That is a pretty awesome looking tree! I had a shagbark in my backyard growing up! I can tell @molometer and @prydefoltz that they are indeed edible although perhaps a little more bitter than some nuts. I do dry and roast them though and that improves the flavor significantly!

I love hickory trees.. we used to collect nuts and store them in a burlap sack in the basement until winter.  #fuckthosesquirells #findyourownnuts

Very interesting about the Shagbark Hickory! Squirrels are so funny here also, they bury pecans and I always wonder if they find all of them when they are hungry!

Sure is interesting bark on the tree. I read somewhere that squirrels always remember where they left a treat for another time. Here I’ve seen the birds follow them and dig up their stash.
