No, but it would be a great opportunity for a *new* stablecoin to come onto the scene, no doubt owned and managed by the same people who own much of BTC.

Remember that the $4B valuation is of Tether, the coin, and not the company. Those lawsuits could easily make the game just not profitable anymore.

I cannot as yet find the research paper in question, but being the internet, it must be somewhere.

here is an older paper from [June 2018](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3195066) which may, or may not, be related.

These continue to be the same concerns as always: that Tether, through Bitfinex, both subsidiaries of iFinex, is used to manipulate Bitcoin prices.

I have mentioned a few times over the past year that it seemed to me that Tether was being set up not just to support Bitcoin but to ultimately be its nemesis too. It's like one Trojan horse inside another.
