Experience a South African thunderstorm!!! Dramatic video!

<p><strong>We have always experienced spectacular thunderstorms in my area of South Africa. I usually love them, somehow they are cathartic for me, but lately they seem to have increased in power to the extent they feel threatening. I can't be far wrong, as my ten year old son started to cry a little the other day.</strong></p>

<p><em>I took photos of the approaching storm from my balcony. I happened to glance out of the window, and the red on the horizon was really ominous, though unfortunately inadequately captured on my Samsung S6 phone camera. If you look to the right, you can see there was already a localised downpour over town.</em></p>
<p>Our storms have definitely increased in strength lately, and flash flooding, as well as downed trees are becoming more common. One of our rock walls collapsed in the latter half of last year, and another smaller wall collapsed last night. I didn't even know, my brother sent the picture to me at work. This morning I couldn't receive the provincial radio station until after lunch time, and the wifi antennae was also knocked out until mid-morning. I felt quite bad when I phoned the <em>wifi guy, </em>his phone was busy for ages. I had to check if it was his antennae, or my receiver that was fried!</p>

<p>One of our already local dams burst it's banks yesterday morning, before the evening storms. Last year I took photos of the flooding. I realised this year I've become a little blase, after seeing footage of rivers flowing through local restaurants, and businesses waist deep in water last year. Similar weather seems to be forecast right through until next week. Ironically, Cape Town and surrounds are fast approaching <em>DAY ZERO, the day taps run dry due to lack of water.</em> The drought there is that bad.</p>

<p><em>These two videos are 60 second clips of ONE of the thunderstorms yesterday I think there were four different storms during the course of the day. The videos were also recorded with my Samsung S6, which was a little overwhelmed by the noise and lightning flashes.</em></p>

my! that's crazy they've increased in power to the extent you feel afraid!

i, too, have an affinity for storms... they usually make me feel at peace.. i think they clear a lot of * **stuff** * out of the air! ...

Every year people are killed by lightning. Often whole families. It is beautiful, but scary.

My sister was hit by lighting when when we were younger.  I agree its scary.

Sorry to hear about the roof. We had a thunderstorm over here last night and the only advantage of living in public housing is that the damage gets fixed with the sinking fund we contribute to every month.
