Earlier today I was battling my garden hose in order to prevent it from leaking when I read a comment from [@tarazkp](https://steemit.com/@tarazkp) about my post "Is this abuse?". In my post I was describing how someone posts a photo that someone else has taken, gives a link to the source, adds one sentence description and does this 10 times a day.

So [@tarazkp](https://steemit.com/@tarazkp) commented:

> Most of the people who act like that, don't read so much ;) However, I do think it has an effect on people who do read and gets them thinking about various aspects of the platform they may not have earlier.

I have to say that reading is very important. Not only reading books and fiction, everybody knows that. But also reading various posts of our favorite authors on this platform too.

Not only we support the creators this way but we also educate ourselves about various intricacies of blockchain social media.

But of course people are busy. I'm busy too. So I used to view reading here like a burden. It would be enough to upvote the post without actually reading it.

For a while it seemed OK but I wasn't happy doing it. I didn't feel connected to the author, to their ideas. Didn't feel connected to the platform itself. While the author might get my upvote and be supported this way, upvote isn't everything.

Engagement isn't there. Community feeling isn't here. What would happen when I wrote a post, I would get quite a few upvotes but no thoughtful comments?

Of course, if this trend continued I would feel that something is wrong with the platform or with my posts.

Now I still am busy but view reading as a sacred act. The one I actually try to make time for. I look forward to reading the posts my favorite authors wrote.

And also reading what other people wrote will give me ideas what to write about too. It might be a continuation of their ideas or actually something new that they hadn't thought about yet.

Some people write about new developments on this platform. Reading their posts keeps me up to date and helps me feel the pulse of our community.

Now I have to run... I'm playing an organ recital later today in my church for a group of Canadian tourists. Hope they will enjoy my program from Malta and Torun.
