I recently bought an amazing electric skateboard and wanted to share my story.  As mentioned when I introduced myself, I love the feeling of riding a board, any board.  I specifically love riding waves.  For example, when snow boarding I like to charge toward snow banks (waves) or run through glades and play on the contours that the trees make (waves).  On my skate board, I seek out curved pavement surfaces(waves) and shallow bowls (waves).  But let me tell you, once I discovered the ONEWHEEL I was riding waves in a whole new way.

The Onewheel features a go-kart tire that is framed by a platforms upon which the rider stands and rides directionally.  The unit contains a electric motor and the platforms have sensors that cause the board to stop and go depending on how you shift your weight.  Lean forward on the front sensor to go forward and back on the back sensor to slow down or stop.  Similar to other directional boards, the Onewheel turns by the rider leaning to their heel-side or toe-side edge.   

What's amazing about the ride is you are literally floating above the earth.  The tire absorbs much of the shock of the surface and the ride is smooth.  You can ride over just about every surface; gravel, pavement, grass, and firm sand alike.  When riding with a friend of mine he said "There are no dead ends on the one wheel"!  We laughed about how cliché it sounded, but it's true,... you can go anywhere.  With a top speed of 19 mph and a range of up to 18 miles it is the preferred commuter vehicle for many urbanites.

There is computer inside the board, with gyroscopes, accelerometers, and Bluetooth connectivity. It weighs about 25 pounds and as mentioned previously has a range of about six or seven miles for the Onewheel + , and up to 18 miles on the newest Onewheel XR.  The board can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth where you can control the riding experience and keep up with your speed, battery life, and distance travelled.  You can even connect with other riders via the social media tool available on the app. The lithium ion phosphate battery is internal and rechargeable. 

Here in my little beach town in North Carolina we have a crew of 5 people that all have Onewheels.  We have had so many fun adventures from the beaches, to trails, to road trips to the mountains, to exploring urban environment in new ways.  It's a great way to walk the dog.  It's the absolute ultimate vehicle for a pub crawl!  I love my Onewheel.  Ultimately, it is just one more way to "give us this day our daily board".
