EASY CALCIUM DISPENSER (FOR CHICKENS)

## <center>Calcium is an important mineral needed for strong bones, and, if you are a chicken, making eggs.</center>

Usually a "complete" layer feed supplies enough calcium for chickens, but for free ranging chickens or those eating different feed, it can be good to offer them a source of calcium.

Usually, crushed oyster shells or crushed chicken eggs are used as an easy way to offer a good source of calcium to your chickens. Recently, I built a gravity fed dispenser to allow our chickens to have free access to oyster shells throughout the day.

I was going to buy some PVC pips and make one out of that, but I decided to skip the trip to town and extra expense and just build an easy wooden one. After a few months of use, it finally became time to refill, so I figured I'd shoot a quick video to give others an idea of a simple option. Enjoy the video.

Great addition for your chickens. Thankfully  free range chickens seem to always have stronger eggshells but this is a really good idea, nice work

We used to do gravity fed free choice food for our chickens until the rats moved in  under the chicken coop. Somehow we never thought of a free choice oyster shell system. That's a brilliant idea! Our chickens are free range, but at certain times of the year (mostly in spring) their shells get really thin. This is a perfect solution. Much more reliable than me trying to remember to toss some out with their feed.
