After a night in the fridge!

This little guy is thawing himself in the early sun!

I guess you know that I am talking about a freezing night and in this post I will show you nature's ways of enduring life in the cold. The valley where we now reside has weird temperatures, excellent for apple farming, but we will have to work hard at getting used to it.

The early morning sun hits our front gate and you can see the steam rising from the pipe!

As the pipe warms it releases steam, meaning that it was frozen!

The early clouds don't improve matters by blocking the sun when there is still a heap of mist around!

The lady Malachite sunbird steps around carefully on the wet pincushion flower!

And this little guy waited patiently for the sun before arriving for breakfast.

Finally, I have placed another shot of the Cape BulBul showing us what to do after a very cold night!

Where we come from in the highveld there is one short winter and most of the rest of the months are all sunny. Not so here, as today the farm manager told me that they have two winter periods here in the valley. One from May to July and another one from September to the end of October. Another difference is that the highveld gets summer rain and the valley only gets rain during winter!

And so, not only the cold but also the wet adds to our misery. I console myself to the fact that there are hundreds of people living in the valley and if they could get used to the weather patterns, then indeed so can we. It is worth it not only because of the clean air and great water, but also for the peace and beauty that surrounds us. Silence is a catalyst for introspection and meditation and it also clears the mind, which is essential for our kind of charity work.

Bul-bul is a flamboyant character, don't easily get disturbed when settled in enjoying whatever they are doing. 

Really gave you a lovely display of drying out the feathers, along with all the other lovely information and photography shares @papilloncharity

They seem to be in a competition with the Robin's here Lady Joan and we are once again gathering some beautiful wild birds here in the garden. I have strung up 3 of the feeders and the results are starting to appear. We also now have a young "Sixy" (Pin tailed Whydah) that is trying to dominate the area. His tail is growing day by day and when it's done, I will place a post with photos about the growth of his tail! Blessings! @joanstewart
