In which Stefan Blackmoon cuts a path...

48

She joined him, standing at his side, her back to him, her gun out and pointed at the nearest bloodsucker.

“So, what are you?” She dared to question him. “Not a vamp, that I can tell. A mage maybe? Seen you guys before, a few times, mostly in Chinatown actually. That thing in your hand, did you conjure it up?”

He risked a glance back at her, his eyes twinkling with the same mischief despite their predicament. “No, not a mage, keep guessing. And this”, he nodded at the glowing blade he waved before the undead things, “Frostfire came from a space ship.”

“Hah!!” She couldn't help herself. “This is gonna be fun.”

He was having an affect on the vampires, or his weapon was. Some of them, the least ragged of the bunch, growled in defiance, and though they seemed prepared to pounce, didn't seem to be in too much of a rush to do it. Others, the more ragged, ancient looking ones were outright cowering. Their eyes flew here and there, either looking for support or for a means of escape. These vamps looked absolutely terrified, what little skin she could see beneath the masses of hair and dirt looked even paler than usual for their kind. If they were human she would have to say they looked like they'd just seen the devil himself risen from the Inferno and standing before them.

Blackmoon waved his blade once more, bringing it down in an arc that left behind a spectacular display of color, frosty blue and glowing red trailed the weapon and stayed behind momentarily as if the blade was cutting a swath through reality itself.

Well, it was now or never, she surmised as she took aim and blew the head off the nearest of the bunch. The creature flew backwards with the blow, collapsing within his ragged comrades.

This didn't have the effect she'd desired of course and instead of chasing off the beasts like she'd hoped, her little bit of violence served to empower them and as a whole the entire lot of them began screaming at the tops of their lungs and rushing them.

“Oops,” she blurted out sheepishly. “My bad.”

Blackmoon, his face set in stone, ignored her and moved in, swinging that wonderful weapon at the first to arrive, neatly cleaving it in two, the creature not even getting the opportunity to scream as it's body instantly froze and then burned up, leaving behind nothing but scorched ashes.

The vampires didn't stop though. Spurned on by their bloodlust, they rushed forward, every one of them forfeiting their immortality as Blackmoon entered their midst swinging that blade back and forth, over and across, leaving nothing but ash, fire, and ice in his wake.

She never got a shot off, didn't even need to. The mysterious stranger with his otherworldly blade handled everything, sending each one of the creatures to their end in only a matter of seconds.

After nearly a half dozen had crumbled into nothing, the remaining few got the hint. Their eyes wild with fear, they rushed and tumbled over each other trying to escape the subway car, leaping back out the windows and the doors of the aluminum cage and into the darkness beyond.

Blackmoon wasted no time. He turned back to her and the remaining survivors, his unearthly blade humming, it's power literally emanating from within. His blue eyes, ferocious in the glow of his blade, bored into her.

“Alright, those that wish to live must come with me.”

     End Part 48
