The world of cryptocurrency investing is filled with a lot of excitement right now, and a lot of hysteria. You've got supposedly super rich chart boys with 15 years of crypto experience(hasn't bitcoin only been around for 9?) that beg their followers for Steem power to protect them from down votes telling you they can predict the future for every coin. 

They'll throw up a chart with some doodles on it, play the alphabet game, and then make a prediction. I'm not an expert by any means but I can spot snake oil when I see it. Why? Because there are no reasons presented. Just claims that when this happens that this always follows. Anyone that has taken an entry level Statistics class knows that casual correlation does not create a strong case for causation. 

In other words, They aren't giving you reasons why this coin or that coin should do good. They are making predictions based usually on when the entire market is moving up or down. This is why they followers think they are smart. They often get it right short term, but anyone can see a market level move. What they aren't doing is explains the differences between a shit coin and a great coin.

So what's my plan since I'm such a smart ass know it all?

Well first off I don't claim to be an expert. Which should get your attention and get you to think about what I have to say. Why? Because it's just my honest thoughts based on my own research and I'm not trying to sell you my own load of bullshit.

My plan is two prong. One, to stay diversified and not convert fiat into crypto but rather earn crypto via blogging on steemit and mining it by setting up several GPU based mining rigs over the next year. I will be concentrating on coins that have an advantage when compared to Bitcoin.

What do I mean by advantages when compared to bitcoin?

First advantage I will be looking for is transaction speed. Litecoin and Ethereum are much faster on average that Bitcoin. Steem is faster than any of those three. I think as crypto becomes a more main stream technology this feature will determine winners and losers in the crypto world because the average person doesn't like waiting. 

Second advantage is a low fee. I tend to do most of my transfers right now with Litecoin because of it's low fees. Once it has wider acceptance Bitcoin Cash shows promise in this area but seems a little slow on transaction speed. Steem again shines because it is feeless. I swear if Steem was widely adopted it would rule the cypto world. 

The third advantage I look for in a coin is the one off. For instance Zcash has built in strong anonymity which should make it popular among drug smugglers and doomsday preppers. Steem has the STM thing going for it.

So right now as long as the markets are as coherent as drunk Kermit even chart boys can get it right most the time. Eventually though as crypto gains mass adoption investors and the general public are going to look at what actually makes a coin good versus shit. I plan on mining and holding the ones with advantages long term and staying out of the ones that are trending but headed to the penny bin.
