A Joyful New Year because of Them | 10% for SL Charity

It is 14th April, the new year of the Sinhalese and Tamils. Usually everyone around the world celebrates new year on 1st of January but for us, we celebrate both 1st of January and 14th January.

Since the childhood we get ready for the new year even before the start of month April. Parents buy new cloths for everyone, and we make “Kavili” with mom. “Kavili” means the traditional sweets of Sri Lanka which makes in festival seasons. And this new year cannot describe in several words. I can write whole storybook from it.

In every new year we gather at relative’s places and celebrate. The first place to gather is our granny’s place. This year we couldn’t gather and I am the one of few reasons. Because I have exams next week. Everyone gathered and they went after showing their respect to granny and other elders.

So, this is not much as festive considering the past. I am spending it at home this time because I don’t want to fail. Even if there is little sadness and I missed the joy of new year 😥.

Then there is this call I received, it made my whole new year. The happiness of that call cannot express. You will also feel it after I tell it 😁.

Can anyone guess?

It was a call from a women, one family we visited few days ago for our charity event. She thanked us from the bottom of her heart. And she told that they cooked “Kiribath” which is called milk rice in English, with the rice we brought for them. Kiribath is a food that will cook to celebrate happy events. They are happy!!! This is great….

Then this little fella wanted to speak with me and he wished me “Happy new year” with joy. I could feel how happy they are because of us. He even told he drew some drawings on the drawing book we gave him. The words of little boy expressed how happy he is to receive those gifts.

Yeah… I am so happy today, even if I am not going to celebrate this year big, we made few families happy. That is good enough for me to be happy.
