What cooking do I watch?
As is pretty evident from my regular food posts, I love food. It isn't just a source of nutrition for me, but something I actively enjoy. Good food is something I like to share, and while I'm hesitant to be negative about food I don't agree with, I'll still give my perception of a place from my experience. When I'm not cooking something, or going out to eat, I spend a reasonable amount of time watching cooking shows, or other food related shows, on TV, Netflix, and YouTube. Today I'm just focusing on the YouTube channels I follow, and in no particular order. Binging is possibly my favourite of the one's listed here, especially with his new 'basics' videos.

## [Simon and Martina](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLMtDePlMyiqv2XC_ByNEVQ)
They started off as Eat your Kimchi, and are now Eat your Sushi, having moved from South Korea to Japan. They're both Canadian, and they're a little more hipster than I usually like, but they're amusing and cover many aspects of the local cultures. I also first came to watching them when they got to do a video of [Saito](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkeRhKnROds) and then another with [Saitamaya](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geZWL_gE-Ak), 2 masters in their chosen food.

## [Binging with Babish](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJHA_jMfCvEnv-3kRjTCQXw)

Simple concept, executed in a clean and humorous way. Make foods that appear in Movies and some non-food based TV shows, as described in them and taste test them. Improve on the recipe if needed. Also some times there isn't much 'recipe' mentioned in the source, so he gets to just make it up as he goes based on any vague description of the item. Examples are [The Fitz Sandwich](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xugufifsB4s) from Agents of Shield, [The Big Kahuna Burger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmwE0aJqkdA) from Pulp Fiction, and [Tomate du Saltambique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uIK3o32hig) from The West Wing, where he gets his name from.

Another channel I follow, [Feast of Fiction](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmuK_ntZEGCXOmnfZW_LWnw) does something similar, but isn't as good. I just have lots of time...

## [Silent Cooking](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4xO15BR3bk0ZO5Jr-X7zeA)

A strange and yet calming channel with no talking (well, 95% of the time anyway), and just the sights and sounds of someone you can't see cooking food.

## [Bon Apetit](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbpMy0Fg74eXXkvxJrtEn3w)

The video channel associated with the magazine of the same name. They do various things from amateur cooking challenges with non-professionals try to keep up with a professional that's behind them talking them through the recipe they're making, to How to... things like [How to Carve a Roast Chicken](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3OvdvgMKs8), and Kids try..., where they have some kids try some fairly typical foods of a certain category from each of the decades of the 20th (and 21st) centuries.

## [Avant Garde Vegan](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCF-ACPYNN0oXD4ihS5mbbmw)

He's become a bit less enjoyable for me since signing his book deal, but I'm still watching and hoping that it's just the marketing phase that's annoying me. Good looking vegan versions of lots of dishes. I doubt I'll ever make any of them, as I've usually found the real thing to be better than any attempt to impersonate it. But I'm sure some of them are incredibly tasty, especially things that aren't trying to be something else. (And any of the Vegetarian and Vegan readers I have will be happier that there's a suggestion for them)

## [Food Wishes](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRIZtPl9nb9RiXc9btSTQNw)

This is the only one I've mentioned before, and the only one I've ever actually cooked something from (way back [here](https://steemit.com/food/@ratticus/sausage-rolls) when I made Sausage Rolls). Chef John doesn't just make simple foods, but pretty much everything he makes you could make in a home kitchen, which is something that attracts me to his format. It also focuses on the food, rather than a presenter (much like Binging with Babish) and you never see his face. Even in a recent challenge video he did, he still didn't show his face.

There's probably 4 or 5 more food channels I follow, but they're either inactive for a while now, or I just don't think they're worth recommending to others. Ones that I've just not quite pulled the pin on...

Absolutely. There are always new, and new to you, recipes to discover and see. And sometimes it's also 'well, I guess some people will eat anything' kind of thing too.

@ratticus ·
I may end up doing a second 'YouTube:Food" recommendation post at some time, as there are others I watch. It also blends with my travel stuff too, as so many travel for food, so you get good food and good scenery too.

Most notable I missed from here though is Mark Wiens. Slightly longer than most, but usually worth it (may be Weins...)
