Just say "NO"?!

There's whole movement lately for saying "NO". People embrace the power of "no" and how important is to say no to a lot of things to protect your own time and to be able to focus on your own thing. There's also a way to deepen your personal relations and not be scattered in random superficial encounters. I guess.

It's kind of funny to me, but it seems like a thing that applies to a very small group of people who get asked too much. Most people. I don't get that many opportunities to say NO. If i had, I'd probably say "yes". I really can't relate to what these people touting "NO" as the only way to have a productive year/life. It's kind of bullshitty to me. But because so many productivity gurus and super high achievers preach it, more and more less-productive guru-wannabe blogs seem to just take the idea and run with it.
I get that Tim Ferriss has to say a lot of "NO". But you most likely need to say more "YES".
or, of course, if you are happy with your life and really don't want to do more or this or that, sure, say "NO" but that's not the same as how these people are painting them saying "NO". They are saying "NO" with purpose. You plebe!

Ultimately, for me it doesn't make much sense when there's so many things to do, so many opportunities to embrace and so many people to meet. Sure, time is limited, but embracing NO just doesn't look like the best strategy. Maybe a YES-NO mode should be embraced, a healthy balance that allows you to focus on your stuff, see your friends and still leave some room for "new". Whatever form it may take.

I wouldn't say it's embracing no, exactly. I think it's more about saying no to what is bad for you. I don't think these people are saying say no to everything, just that often, we feel compelled to say yes. For fear of being disliked if we say no, of damaging relationships etc. And then, we find ourselves in situations where we don't really wanna be and its kinda hard to say no, especially after you've already said yes.

Yep. That's how I see it anyway. Why would you say no to everything?

haha, kidding but I think maybe it has to with levels of success. When you start to get asked you might think it is exhilarating and want to do everything but eventually realize it's actually tiring and time consuming. I wouldn;t know..
