다육식물과 가습기

다육식물은 건조한 곳이 원산지이다. 낮에 기공을 열면 물이 빠져나가게 되니까 말라죽는다. 하는 수 없이 밤에 기공을 열 수 밖에 없다. 그런데 광합성에필요한 이산화탄소를 얻으려면 기공을 열어야 한다. 그래서 다육식물은 광합성의 반응 중 이산화탄소를 이용해서 포도당을 합성하는 과정을 밤에 진행한다. 수분 손실을 줄이는데 최적화되어있다.

사막에서는 비가 자주 오지 않으니 다육식물은 공기중의 습기를 흡수하는데 익숙하다. 때문에 물을 자주 주지 않아도 잘 자란다. 대신 대기중 습도가 높으면 잘 자라지 못한다. 습도 높은 환경을 선호한다면 다육이와 함께하기 어렵다.
