*Stir fried Malabar spinach is one of my favorite side dishes. We call it 'Pui shak' (পুঁই শাক) in our native Bangla. It's easy to cook, full of nutrition and the best thing is it's available throughout the year.*

I've seen my mom grow Malabar spinach at home. Though those were not enough to feed the whole family, even for just a single day meal, but they were like our source of happiness. Whenever we want to put some leaves to add extra flavor to any curry, we just pick some fresh leaves and use it. And as I was saying it's very easy to grow. Just we need some article soil, enough sun, water, and some leftover Malabar spinach's vine!

 *There are two types of Malabar spinach available in my country. We call it red and white, though the white one is actually the green one!*

*The vines' and leaves' colors are different for red and green. And people say that the red one is actually more nutritious but I'm not sure about the fact. But it's true the red one seems tastier to me.*


I would love to share some photos of how to cook Malabar spinach, how to plant them more. Maybe another day. But for today I'm sharing some basic info about how you can grow this at home.

> You can buy/use the Malabar spinach seeds to grow it. But the best is to use the vines. Plant the vine directly in the soil. There are several types, some have roots and very small in sizes. And some are huge like bushes. Don't worry, plant the root side, if there's no root just plant it directly in the soil. Leaves will come out in a week. Don't water too much, keep enough sun and air and in a month you can have a good amount of Malabar spinach at your home.

I used to have these plant's ton in my balcony. But as there was not enough sun and air so they were dying. I took them to the rooftop and now they are growing well. I wouldn't say they are providing any meal yet. Only once I used some leaves to prepare my son's food. But I hope that after a month or so I can take them back from the rooftop and can use them in curries.
