Yahweh: The Almighty of Israel

From ancient times, the Jewish nation of Israel called their God Yahweh: The "Almighty of Israel". Thus we can appreciate it in the holy scriptures:
Isaiah 44: 6-20: "Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and its Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:I am the first and I am the last, and apart from me there is no God...".

1 Chronicles 29:11 "Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the honor; for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is thine. Thine, O LORD, is the kingdom, and thou art exalted above all."
Revelation 1:8 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty".

In this way, Israel understands that it is the Jewish people chosen by Jehovah our God and Lord in the divine trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He covenanted with the first Jewish Patriarch of the Hebrew faith, Abraham, keeping his faithful word later with Isaac "the son of promise" who was born of Sarah, Abraham's old wife. Until reaching the next generation with the patriarch: Jacob (to whom the Lord changed his first name to "Israel - the one who wrestles with God" name he received from the Angel of Jehovah when he wrestled with him on the way to Bethel).

These three: father, son and grandson, would be the ones that conform the initial lineage of the people of God...until the time of Moses, who by the command and power of Jehovah freed the Hebrew people from the yoke of the Egyptian Pharaoh.
When he appeared in the desert in the form of fire on a bush was when Moses asked him for his name, exposed in Exodus 3: 14-15:
"14 And God answered Moses, I Am that I Am. And he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
15 And God answered him, -Tell them that I am the eternal God, and that he called me I Am. Tell them all that I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, your ancestors."

Thus, Yo Soy el que Soy, YHWH or YHVH (אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה, Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh, [ehˈje aˈʃer ehˈje]) is the most common English translation of the answer God used in the Hebrew Bible.

Also, it is spelled "Yahweh" (generally Spanish as "Yahvé") which comes from Greece, or Jehová (its Latinized translation). Other forms of the same name such as Yaho, Yehuah or perhaps Yehoh (sometimes abbreviated as Yoh) present in theophoric names such as Jehoshaphat (Yehoshaphat) or Joshua (Yehoshua).

Truly, the study of the name of God is so complex and deep that it should be exposed in another post for its understanding. See Tetragrammaton (from Greek: Τετραγράμματον, "word composed of four letters"). It further studies the seven names under which God appears in the Hebrew bible which includes: "Elohim (God), El, Adonai (The Lord) and Eloah (God)".

For now let us focus on the beginning of God's covenant with his people Israel, narrated in the Bible.
Going back to the Book of Genesis, we see that Noah, although he is not one of the patriarchs of the Judeo-Christian tradition, is a main figure in the Holy Scriptures, since he was recognized by God, finding favor in his eyes, seeing his love, dedication and devotion.

So he assigned him the task of building the Ark to protect his family and every creature (male and female) so that it would not be extinct by his wrath, will and power manifested in the great universal Flood (cataclysmic phenomenon of the ancient world, recognized as a real fact by all cultures, and today by science).

Thus, God cleansed the whole earth of the existing wickedness of that generation of men, in order to proliferate his creation until the arrival of his divine seed (Jesus) in the race of mankind.

In Genesis 9:1 "and God went on to bless Noah and his sons: Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth" It is from the descendants of Noah , that came the covenant with a new era for all mankind, Genesis 12: 13,14 "God said: This is the sign of the covenant that I establish for future generations between me and you and every living creature that accompanies you: I put my bow in the clouds, which will serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth".

It was from Noah's son, Shem, that came later Abram, from ab (father) and ram (high, exalted), so its meaning was "the Father (God) is exalted" to later become the Proviene from the Hebrew (Avraham) meaning " father of the people" or "father of the multitudes".

God had empathy and much love in Abraham, and the only one the Lord called "My friend". He is also known as the father of faith (because of his story of sacrificing his son Isaac in holocaust by order and obedience to God, but, Jehovah spared the life of the child by forbidding such sacrifice, and then, he ended up blessing them forever the same to his heirs. In addition, Brahmanic, Judaic and Christian beliefs know him as the "Father of Judaism".

The whole covenant that God made with Abraham we can read in Genesis 17: 1-21. "Now Abram was ninety and nine years old when the Lord appeared to him and said to him, 'I am God Almighty; walk before me and be perfect...'"

Genesis presents Abraham, as a believer who trusted in God, was faithful to Him and always obeyed Him, and establishes a covenant (in the year 1921 B.C.) with the one God and as the depositary of various divine promises: the offspring, the blessing of all nations and the land known as the land of Canaan, the promised land. And referring to the stars of heaven "So shall your descendants come to be"

>>Genesis 15:5.
At the age of 75 he left behind all his life, his hometown, his comforts, his native family and set out on a journey with his wife Sarai, and his nephew lot, .

Genesis 12:1-6 to the land of Caam which God promised to give to his descendants. Genesis 12:7... and as he emphasized it "from north to south, east and west ...until indefinite times Genesis 13: 14-15.
Therefore, Jehovah, being proclaimed the God of Israel, had to defend them at all times.

We can appreciate the bloody battles between the Israelites and their enemies, which occupy a large part of the first books of the Bible, which are explicitly presented as a struggle between Yahweh and the foreign gods of the other nearby nations.

All these generations knew the power and justice of Jehovah, who with his love, and blessing took them as his chosen people, exhorting them, guiding them at all times. and after hard sorrows, battles, knowing his faithfulness and infinite love in his works with his ancestors as, we would all give him faith, worship, praise and prayer forever in a covenant until the end of time.

It was no longer necessary to be circumcised or Jewish, but through faith in Christ, we would all be saved. And the Lord made a covenant with man and revealed his secret plan to his people and to the world, with everyone who was a believer of his law, through the coming of his beloved son Jesus, all accepting him as their Lord and recognizing him as the son of God for the eternal salvation of the soul.

In the biblical passages we see how the manifestation of Jehovah's power marks eras, lives and deeds thus changing the course of humanity, from the creation of the world with Adam and Eve, from Noah to the patriarchs.

But it is in the Exodus (The 2nd book of the Pentateuch written by Moses himself) with the liberation of his people Israel, when Jehovah made known all his power to Egypt and the whole world, being recognized forever in all corners of the planet as the Almighty of Israel.
