## I finally turned 70!  

I turned 70 on November 1st.  Not in age, but reputation on Steemit. I started Steemit in August  2017.  It's been 15 months since I have been on Steemit.  It took less than a year for me to reach 69 but to reach 70, it took about 4 months.  So I am happy that I am able to get to 70 before the SteemFest 2018 next week!  

In August, 2017, I started off with **25** Reputation.
Today November 3, 2018, I am at **70.19** Reputation.

In this post, I want to share with you my journey of reaching reputation 70. In this way, fellow Steemians can also have a roadmap on how they can grow their reputation effectively too.

## One Advice:  Blog About Open Source Communities, Contribute & Delegate SP to help them grow

**Everyone succeeds in different ways.** There are many things that work on Steemit.   For ordinary people like you and me, I only have one piece of advice to share: **Keep blogging and contribute to Open Source Communities.** That's how I turned 70 in 15 months time.  

If your reputation is remaining below 50, it is because you have stopped blogging.  It took me less than 3 months to get to 50.  To move on to higher levels of reputation, I started joining different Open Source communities on Steemit to make that happen.  Don't just blog about yourself, blog about communities.  And in my case, I've joined & contributed specifically to **Open Source Communities** to reach the status 70.

1.  **Keep blogging everyday, but don't just blog about yourself.**  I first came onto Steemit platform with the intention of blogging about my travels, thus I chose the username @rosatravels. Traveling turns me  into a story teller. When I blog, I tell my stories. I want to share with the world the many places I visited, the diverse culture that I experienced, and most important of all, the many interesting people who became good friends because of our unexpected encounter in my visit. That's how I got started on Steemit  but I discovered I could not stop here. 

2.  **To grow your reputation to 70, branch out to contribute to Open Source communities and blog about them**.  I still blog about my travels but it is now in lower priority because I see a greater need of contributing to Open Source communities with my skills.  Because of that, I started having a lot of content to blog about.  My followers increased because they also wanted to learn about other communities.  So follow me and find Open Source communities that you are passionate about and help them grow with your ideas and skills.

3.  **I also delegate my SP** to help Open Source Communities, especially when they are at their infancy stage.  This is how I slowly gained my reputation.   You don't grow by hoarding your own SP.  Don't.  Don't power down.  I never did in these 15 months.  Newly established **Open Source communities** need your SP and skills to help them grow.  When they grow, you also grow. Whey they grow in reputation, you also grow in reputation.

**I joined @Utopian-io last year in mid October, 2017.**   At that time, my reputation was under 50.  It has been exactly one year that I have dedicated myself to this Open Source Community. At that time, Utopian also has its own reputation score too on their platform, but now you don't see it.  So we need to depend on the Reputation score shown on Steemit to note our progress.   Today,   [@Utopian-io ](https://steemit.com/@utopian-io)is at **70.13** today.   I am so proud of you. Today I celebrate with you as I write this post because together, we have reached 70.


### How Utopian and I grew together in the past year:

1.  **When @Utopian-io first went live** in mid October (just before last year's Steemfest), their reputation score was around 50 also. Back then, I started contributing whatever professional skills I had to help the platform grow. For any new community to grow in its early stage, loyal steadfast users are needed. It was a lot of fun for me to watch the vision of Open Source Economy turning into a reality with all our contributions at @Utopian-io. 
2.  **All start up communities need SP**. So in November 2017, I delegated all of my SP, which was 500 SP only at that time, to help this baby Utopian grow.
3.  **From November 2017**, I began to help out in the moderating work for Utopian.
4.  **From December to March 2018**, I contributed to the translation work in FOSS Projects in Crowdin.
5.  **From April to May 2018**, I created video tutorials on how to use the Open Source Software Calibre.
6.  **In June 2018**, I became the Community Manager for the translation category in the Utopian-Davinci collaboration.

**If you have skills** in development, coding, tutorial, blogs, visibility, graphics, copywriting, analysis, translation, bugs hunting, documentation, suggestions, etc, Utopian empowers all professionals to bring value to the Open Source movement in your contribution. This is how you grow your reputation.  You begin to have a lot of  open source valuable content to blog about.

**As you can see, reaching reputation 70 is not an overnight thing.**  The road is paved with dedicated commitment day by day to a community.  For me, there is not a day that goes by without engaging in the Utopian Open Source Community.  

**From this Open Source Community,** I made a lot of friends who also became colleagues as we work together as managers for the good of the Open Source Economy.

**From the @Utopian-io platform**, my Open Source Communities widen so much that I also got involved contributing to other Open Source Communities on Steemit.  And you can do the same too.

### Reaching 70 is not by chance. It is dedicating myself to not only one Open Source community, **but many**.

For the rest of the article, I will highlight  3 other Open Source communities that I highly recommend for you to join.  They are all  Open Source work and connected to @Utopian-io in some ways.  As you contribute your time and skill to these open source platforms, your reputation, too, will grow quickly with your presence and skills.



## 1.  Esteem Open Source Community

I started using the  [eSteem mobile app](https://esteem.app/) very early on in August, 2017 when the app became available.  I saw it in the Google play store and downloaded it without too much knowledge of it at that time.  Then when I saw the esteem website, I met  @good-karma and the eSteem Community. 

[Esteem is open source ](https://github.com/esteemapp/)and @Utopian.io platform gave me the opportunity of giving suggestions and reporting bugs to the project developers. I was so happy to have a part to help the eSteem Community in those early days in November 2017.  Now, whenever time allows, I help to translate the eSteem Tips into Chinese. This is how you grow in your reputation by contributing your skills to the network. Join and follow the @eSteemapp news blog and their community.


## 2.  Steemhunt Open Source Community

**[Steemhunt](https://steemhunt.com/) is open source** and has a vibrant community.  It is a service built on Steemit where you get rewarded by posting new and cool products on their platform on a daily basis.  The key is to participate and be active on their platform. 100 hunts get upvoted each day, and each hunters can get 3 comments upvoted by their team.

I joined Steemhunt for the fun of it in May, 2017 to support @project7 and the team. The platform has gone through a lot of changes to help all hunters involved in an engaging manner. Whenever I can, I still try to contribute a new hunt to the platform to keep the momentum going, so that the platform can grow to fulfill its own mission to the next stage soon.  I am a keen supporter of **Open Source Projects**, so you will find many **Open Source Hunts** under my profile in Steemhunt. With that, my reputation in Steemhunt also grew.  The team and moderators know me very well there.

Right now , Steemhunt is air-dropping LOTTERY HUNT COINS  for all users.  Make sure you go into your profile and click on the tab beside "Today". You will be able to get lots of hunt coins up going up as high as 100.  One time, I was lucky and got a lottery of 1000 Hunt coins.  You now have 4 chances during the day to collect free Hunt coins.   


## 3.  Actifit Open Source Community

**[Actifit](https://actifit.io/) is Open source** and headed by my colleague @mcfarhat. You get rewarded daily by doing exercises. Imagine that! This should be a motivation to get everyone moving so that they can start counting fitness steps daily to monitor their health status.

Whenever I remember, I would post my Actifit Fitness Tracker report before midnight.  There is a vibrant community of moderators that give you feedback. My involvement in Actifit started in July and I became an Actifit Ambassador.  How is this for reputation?  I have written a [short tutorial](https://steemit.com/utopian-io/@rosatravels/2-promoting-actifit-start-here) here to get everyone started in this vibrant community.

I came to know @Mcfarhat via Utopian where we work together as community managers. When Actifit first launched in July, I delegated 10,000 SP to help this baby platform grow.  If you have SP and do not know who to delegate it to, contact Actifit.  They are trustworthy and helping many people to keep fit.



## Conclusion

**It has been an awesome year to watch my reputation growing to 70**, all with the help of the Utopian Open Source Community.  This  community has opened up many smaller open source communities for me to contribute my skills, time and SP.  Since I do not have a lot of SP myself, I often delegate to communities when they are in their infancy stage, because that is the time they most need SP to get started.  This is exactly what I did with Utopian and Actifit.  Once they grow and are up and running, I would undelegate my SP so as to be able to delegate SP to other baby communities to help them grow in their initial stage.
