#  This is my application to become a French Language Moderator.

## English Presentation  

I am Roxane, I am from Belgium and my mother tongue is French.

It's been a bit more than a year than I am blogging on Steem.

Rapidly I discovered that French language, the 5th most spoken language in the world, was missing on Steem and I had the idea to co-translate the Steem White-Paper with the few other French-speaking people. The main goal was to empower French-speaking people to join us on Steem. 

From this experience I learned that translation is a real job and only trained / diplomed translators can do it really properly. 

So I decided to hire several translators to help me to translate other technical documents such as White-Papers / Blue-Paper / educative videos / etc. 

I've learned that, today, everyone can be *a translator* because of Google Translation. But not everyone is able to translate properly. 

You need to find an expert in the field of the translation, someone who understands the terminology to produce an accurate translation.

I also believe in reviewed translation by a second translator because four eyes are always better than two!

Being a moderator for translators for the French language at Utopian et DaVinci is really important for me since I like the idea to empower French's speaking people on a topic like open-source. 

I do believe that open-source (and sharing economy) is the future since… 

-  in the open-source field everyone can (co-)create software;

- everyone can 'taylor' an already existing software to fits exactly his/her needs;

- if there is a bug in the software and you are able to fix it, you can do it and submit a pull request;

- non-open-source software is quite expensive.

## French Presentation 

Je m'appelle Roxane, je suis belge, ma langue maternelle est le français et je blogue sur Steem depuis un peu plus d'un an.

Rapidement après mon arrivée sur Steem, j'ai découvert que la langue française (la 5ème langue la plus parlée au monde!) était très peu utilisée sur la plateforme et j'ai eu envie de co-traduire le White-Paper de Steem avec d'autres Steemiens francophones dans l'espoir que cela motive plus de francophones à nous rejoindre. 

De cette expérience, j'ai retenu que la traduction est un job à part entière et que seuls les traducteurs diplômés ou entraînés peuvent effectuer ce type de tâche correctement.

Dès lors j'ai décidé d'embaucher plusieurs traducteurs pour m'aider à traduire des documents techniques comme d'autres White-Papers, le Blue-Paper, vidéos éducatives, etc.

De cette expérience, j'ai appris qu'aujourd'hui tout le monde peut s'improviser traducteur grâce à Google Traduction, mais que tout le monde n'est pas capable d'offrir une traduction pointue. 

Nous avons besoin de trouver des experts spécialisés dans le domaine à traduire, quelqu'un qui comprend et qui est capable d'utiliser la terminologie exacte afin de produire, après recherche, une traduction de qualité. 

Je crois aussi beaucoup à la révision des traductions effectuées, par un second traducteur. Car, ne dit-on pas que quatre yeux valent mieux que deux ? 

Être modératrice pour la section francophone serait un grand honneur, car j'aime l'idée de faire découvrir aux francophones des topiques tels que l'open source.

Je crois fermement que l'open source (et l'économie de partage) est notre futur car :

- tout le monde peut créer un programme open source;

- tout le monde peut customiser un programme existant pour qu'il réponde plus précisément à ses besoins;

- S'il y a un bug dans le programme utilisé et que tu es capable de le fixer, tu peux le faire et proposer la modification directement au créateur grâce au processus de Pull-Request;

- La majorité des programmes non-open source sont fort chers.


## Skills 

* Able to use Trados (CAT tools);
* Able to use Antidote for spell checkers (proofreading);
* Able to use Termex to find the perfect terminology;
* Already a bit familiar with Crowdin;
* Able to use the PAO tools to give back the translated document in the exact same format as the original one;
* Able to supervise a team of translators;
