Royal cities often have a long-drawn tradition of cuisines, customs and local delicacies. Jaisalmer is no exception. Along with its picturesque view of ancient golden yellow forts, the city also mesmerizes a visitor with its flavors - both ancient and modern.We were there for a shoot. Once the shoot was done, like many other cities we decided to go on a food walk. 

Jaisalmer is known as a top tourist destination in India. While were fully aware of the things to see in this city, we were pleasantly surprised to the range and variety of offerings in Jaisalmer.

**Cafe the Kaku**

We started our adventure with Cafe the Kaku, a chilled out relaxed place with some light music playing in the background. You can start your day or end it here. It’s a very popular place in the town. The place is also frequented by a lot of the international tourists since its closer to what they might experience back home.

This is a modern lounge bar kind of a place. Good food, Good Beer, Good music and a fantastic view of the Jaisalmer Fort. You can choose from a variety of cuisines both local and international to go with your drink and the view of the fort. Prices are reasonable to expensive depending on what’s your native currency.

**Trio**

Next up moving ahead we found ourselves at the Trio. Trio opens into a magnificent view of the imposing Tazia tower and the mandir palace or more popularly known as the royal palace. You could find a lot of tourists around both international and local enjoying fine dine experience here.

On strong recommendation we tried their shot Ker Sangri, Murg Sabz and Fried Raita. While these are items that are native to many north Indian cultures the flavor of what we had here was very unique. Definitely something I would recommend to everyone. 

After a full mid-day meal our taste buds craved for some dessert and we were directed towards the famous Dhanraj Bhatia mithai shop. This shop is well known for its variety of ladoos especially Ghotua and Panchdhari ladoos, a Jaisalmer specialty.

A tiny outlet amidst a busy market can be easily missed but the taste of their Desi ghee infused ladoos once had, lingers in your memory for a long time. However, fret not, should you not be able to find it, do ask anyone there and they will point it out to you.

Walking on the lanes of Jaisalmer admiring the golden cityscape we reached this small roadside Dhaba - Marudhar which also happens to be one of the highly recommended places by locals and tourists alike.

Located near the railway station do not be guided by the small outlet. This is one of the most popular places in Jaisalmer. You are likely to find expensive cars parked outside which they eat in what looks like a roadside Dhaba. We tried their shot Gatta curry and Malai cholla and were very close to wiping our plates clean. 

Our next stop was an interesting find. A bite of their bhang cookies and you could get yourself a one-way ticket to the moon, yes that’s what they call it. The “One-way ticket to the Moon”. This govt. of Rajasthan approved Bhang shop is very famous for its different flavors of Bhang Lassi. You can find it near the Jaisalmer Fort. Many tourists confess of visiting this place every day during their stay in Jaisalmer! 😉

This is probably one of the rare places in India where you can consume cannabis-based food item legally. I would recommend you go easy if this is your first time. In case you are experienced I am sure you don’t need any advise 😊 . We purchased cookies there but saved it for consumption once we get back to the hotel. For those looking to smoke something, this is the best place to enquire where to find something.

By this time, we were tired and full. It was time for our food venture in Jaisalmer to come to a halt. And what’s a better way to end a day but with some chilled dessert. Our last stop for the evening was Kanchan Shree ice cream place.

They recommended for us to have the famous Rajwadi Lassi and their original Panchmewa Kulfi. Pure delight and relief after a long day of walking around in the desert heat. 
Wouldn’t you want to taste these delicacies for yourself? Well I would surely recommend it. Jaisalmer is India’s top tourist destination.
