Since mid January WLS, the native token of social media platform [Whaleshares](www.whaleshares.io) has been on the rise, very much against the overall flow of the market dictated by a sheepish-looking Bitcoin, currently struggling to remain above $3,500.  Today we saw a 43.83% gain from WLS and even though those gains were quickly lost, the overall feeling is still bullish.

Is there a relationship between all the drama we have been having over on STEEM and the rise of WLS?  Hard to say with certainty.  

What we can be sure about is this:

For those of you wondering what is the difference between Steem & Whaleshares, you will find what you are looking for in [this post](https://whaleshares.io/whaleshares/@samstonehill/100-followers-today-a-whaleshares-steem-comparison).

To put it in a nutshell it is an upgrade to the STEEM system, complete with a growing list of community tokens similar in function to the long awaited SMTs.  With no bots, no autovoting, no delegation, no rep numbers and no 'stable' coin it has a very different feeling to steemit, whilst the mechanics of it remain familiar. 

Created by @officiallyfuzzy the man behind the Bitshares Exchange, the WLS tokens can be exchanged with BTS on [Rudex](https://market.rudex.org/#/market/RUDEX.WLS_BTS).

This is important because while we love to see the progress of other off-shoots like [Weku](https://deals.weku.io/pick_account?referral=samstonehill) & [Bearshares](https://bearshares.com/@samstonehill) which are also built on the familiarity of the steemit experience, they have not yet been able to get their tokens listed on an exchange.  While they will no doubt get this done eventually, there is still an element of faith which must be maintained, for tokens don't really have any value at all until we can sell them.

Join Whaleshares and you can sell your tokens as soon as they are available in your wallet.

WLS peaked in October last year shortly after it's arrival and has been falling since then, but as time goes on it looks more and more like the floor has been reached.

Of course, only time will tell, but for now I remain incredibly bullish and grateful to @alexpmorris for getting me onto the platform in September.  My experience with it has so far been nothing but pleasurable.
