***The results of a more than 10 years long research of plants and animals in the Joseph Parks in the Czech Republic are more than satisfactory. A high concentration of 25 endangered species of dragonfly, over 200 hundred species of insects, hundreds of amphibians and growing numbers of birds confirm that the first private bird park of the Czech Ornithological Society is a success.***

In the past 10 years, more than 166 species of birds have been seen. Dozens of bird species have chosen the Joseph Park as their nesting location, for example, the Northern lapwing or the common snipe. But only just birds have decided to live here. The increase in the numbers of amphibian species is just amazing. Nowadays we can find here hundreds of frogs and newts says David Čáp the local zoologist. The increase in numbers of dragonflies is also very positive because dragonflies serve as a great indicator of the surrounding nature’s quality. And even insects are growing nicely. Two-hundred-seventeen species of insect have been found just during this years main season. And more then likely a similar number is still waiting to be spotted.

Břeněk Michálek, the parks manager, says the only disappointment has been butterflies. And the reasons for that are fairly obvious. Most of the meadows are being mowed at least twice a year and harvested in a traditional way that makes reproduction difficult for the butterflies. A long-awaited solution to this problem will the introduction of wild horses that will feed on the meadows instead of them being mowed by machines. These wild horses should be introduced in the area at the start of the next year.
