If you think "taxation is theft", then naturally the assumption process could infer that "discipline is assault". If you want to promote anarchist ideals as regards government and corporate power, sure, I can respect that (even if I disagree). But, those ideals have no place in parenting. Removing the authority from the parent and placing the hope in "self-responsibility" breeds rebellious children. What else are we to expect anarchist philosophies to breed? Children must be disciplined from an early age so standards and expectations are clearly defined during the development process. This does not stunt creativity or personality, it just sets the parameters where those things can safely occur and thrive. Discipline is not abuse. Abuse is very real and very bad. But, when we start comparing discipline to abuse we strip parents of their most effective tool for parenting. And I submit, we see the effects of ineffective parenting all around us today.

@caleballen Thanks for the comment. Like I said, I have some issues with peaceful parenting, so I don't necessarily disagree with your feedback. I do think an open discussion on the subject is important though. Thanks again!

I'm not attacking you at all. I'm just saying the peaceful parenting method is based on presuppositions, like everything else, and those are presuppositions I foundationally disagree with. Glad you're of a similar persuasion. But, why do you feel this discussion is important? Is PP primarily a response to abuse? Because, I don't thing abusers are going to adopt a new parenting technique. If it's targeted towards good parents, wouldn't this be a step backwards?
