Siddhivinayak Temple

Siddhivinayak temple is the most famous temple in India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is located in Prabha Devi, Mumbai. It is one of the Ashtavinayak temples(one of 8 prominent Ganesh Temples in Maharashtra) other 7 temples are located in different parts of Maharashtra.

This temple was built in 1801 by Deubai and Vithu Patil. Earlier, the temple was small and had a small Ganesha Idol which was carved out of a black stone. In recent years there is a great development in the temple a bigger temple is constructed the doors have Ashtavinayaka carved in it and the roof of the shrine is gold plated.

The most important feature of this temple is the Ganesha's trunk is on right side commonly other idols have the trunk on the left side. The idol has 4 hands holding a small axe, bowl of modaks, prayer beads and a lotus. Riddhi and Siddhi idols are placed on either side of the shrine. Statue of mushak is also inside the temple. Mushak is Ganesha's Vahan or ride. Pilgrims visiting the temple believe that if any wish is whispered in Mushak's ear it will be fulfilled. This temple has maximum visitors on Tuesday.
