I have waited for a month for a new micro lens for my cell phone. It came today, and I have been playing! I took a 6 by 8 mm Emerald cut Emerald, and took some pictures. Note that this is a good quality Emerald, but this magnification shows impurities that are natural, and very small. Also Emeralds are so rare now that they have a totally different scale for grading. In a normal this would be a VS rated stone, but with an Emerald it is considered a VVS to eyeclean! Emeralds are really that hard to come by. 6 X 8 mm Emerald: .jpg)  The lens does work well, but it has a few problems. The illumination is too bright, and it washes out the top right of the picture. It also does not fit the phone unless I remove the case first. But the optics are trueOverall, I am happy with the purchase, and would give it an 8 on a scale of 10. I did not ding it for the case removal problem because there are too many phones, but the light should be shielded better. **`:)>`**

An Emerald lens would make all the pictures green, ROFLOL!
I actually have one magnifying lens that is red. It allows me to look inside rubies, because it is ruby colored. The gemstone itself disappears, due to the lens filtering out the ruby color, and the only thing left is any impurities inside the stone....
It is fun to filter out the stone, as the impurities become visible floating by themselves.

Yup fakes are there, oddly this stone, with the natural inclusions, is worth 30 time more than a perfect lab grown stone. ALL lab grown stones, are in fact worth very little because they are so perfect.
But natural stones command premium money. That is why I have enough lab stones to train myself what to look for top reject them.
To answer your question, most of the good mines have been mined out, and Emeralds are a finite quantity, until, and unless, they find new mines.
