That was seen coming, while cryptocurrencies are gaining more strength and acceptance, governments will try to control them much more, and all under the pretext that it is for the good of the citizen.

Coinbase has been in the news recently because the SEC threatened to sue them over their new defi lending platform. So the regulators are already there, and I agree with you that it's inevitable for governments - everywhere - to seek greater control of the crypto markets. It's pure speculation, but my guess is that this proposal by Coinbase is partially intended to improve the regulatory environment for the *Coinbase Lend* product.
