Unfortunately, in modern times there were multiple cases of incidents and accidents during lifeboat drills. That what was made to save lives was the cause of taking it in many cases. There are some reports that more people died in lifeboats than that were saved. In any case, until there is a better way for salvage of people at sea, there will always be lifeboats.
