<html><div style="border:dotted;background-color:grey;"><div style="color:white;text-align:center;font-family:times new roman; margin:5px;">What's up everyone? Today we're starting a new series of articles called 'The birth of Earth'. In this first article we're going to cover some major events in formation of Earth as we know it.</div></div> ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/gow64wr3uk.jpg) <div style="border:solid;background-color:darkblue;"><div style="color:white;text-align:center;font-family:times new roman; margin:5px;"> Our journey starts almost **5 billion years ago** when there was still no signs of our planet. In that time our solar system was in the beginning of its creation and the Sun was still just a new born star surrounded by the cosmic dust. Through some time the gravity has pulled the dust that orbited the Sun together into tiny rocks which were then constantly colliding with one another, eventually creating bigger and bigger rock/meteor. Over millions of years gravity was pulling this rocks and meteors together to create a massive celestial body which we now know as Earth. Back then our planet was just one of at least hundred planets that were orbiting around Sun. ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/u7h76cgxn2.jpg)*Creation of our solar system* <p style="border-top:solid;border-color:blue;"> **4.5 billion years ago** the day on Earth lasted just around 6 hours and the surface of our planet was similar to hell with temperatures reaching over 2000°F (1090°C). Only elements that could be found were carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor. The Earth was just a boiling ball of liquid rock and an endless ocean of lava. Scientists think that this period of our planet was marked with one major event - Theia Impact. Their hypothesis suggests that Earth collided with astronomical body the size of Mars called Theia, and that left over debris eventually created our very Moon through some time. Back then the Moon was only 14,000 miles away from the Earth which is 18 times closer distance than today. </p> ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/sf720itwks.jpg)*Earth moments before Theia Impact* <p style="border-top:solid;border-color:blue;"> ** 3.9 billion years ago** a hail of meteors, left from our solar system formation started to fall on Earth. Those meteors contained crystals that pretty much looked like a salt but were actually a frozen droplets of water. The next 200 million years were very important for existence of Earth as we know it since it was constantly bombarded with this crucial element of life. Earth's core remained molten in this stage but the surface has cooled enough to form a thin crust that was covered by hot, almost boiling water. After this long time meteor storm has passed, the air temparature dropped to around 170°F (77°C). In this stage the Earth started to look more familiar but it was still a very dangerous place. The winds stronger than most of today's hurricanes roamed our whole planet. These winds were produced by much faster rotation of the Earth itself. Also, the Moon was so close to the Earth that its gravity had big impact on water creating massive tidal waves that spread through our planet. </p> ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/i6wrqrguwu.jpg)*Formation of Earth's crust* <p style="border-top:solid;border-color:blue;"> **3.8 billion years ago** a small islands started to appear in an endless ocean. These islands were created by underwater volcanos that kept erupting through years. After some time these islands joined together and created Earth's first continent. Although the atmosfere was still toxic and temperatures were high, the Earth was now completely recognizable place.</p> ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/s62j5b1doo.jpg)*Complete transformation of the Earth* </div></div></html> >Picture links: https://goo.gl/images/hN21F7 https://goo.gl/images/Gh6sSU https://goo.gl/images/fcyPG2 https://goo.gl/images/oQBUHJ https://goo.gl/images/bJLV4T This is @steemagazin original content.
