Steem is beautiful @ poofshroom and this is a great submission to the photo challenge. There are many contests and challenges to motivate us.
A few tips that may help you. If you post high quality posts you will gain a following, gain a good reputation and much more. Post only High Quality Content if you want to succeed. You don't have to have the best art/photo/video you just have to show off what you have. You will be amazed how much you improve along the way.
High Quality Content is original media you created The more original photos, art, media the better on your post except for contests/challenges > Descriptions on the your/media and interesting stories are a must (100 word limit the more the better) Push yourself to be creative and think of it as writing a book with images and video to be published when you're finish. It's quality not quantity that makes you succeed. No matter how great your posts are in the beginning you may not see many rewards because no one knows how awesome you are yet! Clever titles and photos, may help a little.
So what's a minnow to do? Glad you asked.
The best way to turn around being an invisible minnow is check out steemers posts. Comment on posts that interest you and engage with others commenting. When you upvote on high quality posts you get $rewarded$ > You only have 40 votes so upvote wisely. Making interesting and helpful comments on comments gives you $$$$ rewards $$$$, recognition/a following, a knowledge of what is going on with steemit and a know how what works for a High Quality post. In the begining if you make one or two High Quality posts and then have great conversation with the community and upvote the HQ content you make $$$.
