The Chicago Cubs dropped some serious coin in the offseason when they landed the biggest free agent on the market. Yu Darvish signed a deal that would pay him $25 Million this year to pitch every 5 days. That salary might sound insane, but the Cubs front office and fans rejoiced as Darvish was the crown jewel of the 2018 free agent market. But thus far, Darvish has been underwhelming to say the least.

Yu Darvish has pitched in the MLB since 2012 when the Texas Rangers signed him. He burst on to the scene with high expectations and quickly became one of the premier pitchers in baseball. He would compile a record of 56-42 record and keep his ERA under 4.00 in every year except 2017 when it was 4.01. Darvish was a strikeout machine and showed his versatility on the mound during every start.

But the 2018 season has not gone as planned for the Chicago Cubs new starting pitcher. He has started 6 games and has an ERA of 6.00. He is yet to win a game and is 0-3. Darvish has a WHIP of 1.57, which is a career worst. He is only striking out 6 batters per game and has just 2 quality starts.

Is it time for the Cubs faithful to panic or is this just going to pass as a bump on the road? His career statistics hint at the latter.
