Last night much of the mixed martial arts public tuned into one hell of a card on FOX. The main event pit two elite lightweights in Dustin Poirier and Anthony Pettis against each other, with Dustin rising the ranks by forcing a tap from the former champion. Asides from the awesome finishes, one notable fighter made his claim to being worthy of a spot in the organization. Sage Northcutt was always plagued with adversity due to his almost unreal cadence and nature, but last night he showed real evolution...and that he is a truly good person at heart.

His opponent was brazen enough to go up in weight class, which is admirable in itself, but Sage proved to be a bit much too soon. A combination of power strikes to the body, good distance management, and a solid double leg takedown all led to Northcutt's victory last Saturday night. He won a unanimous decision in the face of judges he hadn't met in prior occasions, a solid fifteen minutes without overhauling the pace showed real maturity in his fight style.

Lackluster losses to the somewhat inexperienced Mickey Gall and the middlegorund welterweight Bryan Barbarena had many questioning, and eventually doubting the young man from Texas. With a solid foundation in his father and Urijah Faber, his coaching staff and fight mentality is finally reaching the heights many had hoped it would. Many forget that this is a 21 year old making his streak in the best fight promotion on earth, he has time to grow...and he will.
