The famous, unfinished *Basílica de la Sagrada Família* a.k.a the *Sagrada Família* is Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain's most notable landmarks. Designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, the construction of the basilica began on March 19th, 1882 under Francisco de Paula del Villar.

In 1883, Villar resigned and Gaudí took over as head architect on the project. Only a quarter of the church was complete when Gaudí passed away in 1926. He is buried in the crypt. 

When the Spanish Civil War started in 1936, the construction of the basilica slowed and fires set by revolutionaries partially destroyed Gaudí's original plans, plaster models and drawings that where located in the crypt. It took 16 years to piece together the fragments of the master model. Construction presumed in the 50's. As of today, the church is still incomplete but the current people working on the project hope to have it complete by 2026. 

Millions and millions of people visit the Gothic/Art Nouveau-styled marvel every year. Tourists gather shoulder-to-shoulder to photograph Barcelona's most popular attraction.

As you can tell by my not-so-good photos, it was very difficult capturing a good picture of the church. This structure has been on my bucket list for years and I'm so glad on my travels through Europe, I got to witness another one of Gaudí's legacies.
