## Let's all power-down our accounts and try to maintain our SP!
Isn't it great to have incentive to keep posting only high quality material and curating and commenting on the site beyond just fun? Light a fire under your own feet and do the POWER DOWN CHALLENGE!!!

# Did you know?
You can cancel a powerdown whenever you want! Why not give it a try. It doesn't even cost a penny! You can power down and take one weeks worth of steem and still keep 12/13ths of it! Turn some of that POWER into MONEY! I'm looking at you, @karenmckersie - set some of that Steem Power free!

# Do you remember?
Powerdown used to take 104 weeks? I'm sure there was some *very good reason* for this that one of the founders foresaw. Maybe I can add a clip from the whitepaper, that still erroneously says 104 weeks.

Unfortunately this amount of discipline was untenable for the whales, and eventually the payout period was changed to 13 weeks instead. This is actually an 800% increase! Sadly, most noobs to the platform read the [beginner's guide](https://steemit.com/steemit/@thecryptofiend/the-missing-faq-a-beginners-guide-to-using-steemit) and don't realize that once they have 1000 STEEM, that could be 13 weekly payments of over 70 STEEM! Not insignificant even for the dolphins.

# Will powering down make you a black sheep?

If Dan Larimer, co-founder of steemit is a black sheep then count me in. I will be taking the powerdown challenge until @ned steps up his communication game and starts updating us more regularly in regards to what's going on. No doubt ned is a very handsome guy, but what good is being the pretty face of Steemit if you don't communicate? The last [update](https://steemit.com/steemit/@ned/my-announcement-march-15-2017) left me with more questions than answers. Now the hardfork is stalled for good reason, like pushing through an omnibus bill of unrelated changes, something was bound to catch a snag.

# Does this mean you're pessimistic about Steemit?

No, mostly I'm just trolling the people doing the power-up challenge because of how damn peppy they are. Don't read too much into it, more shitty MSPAINTs are forthcoming!

Power up is for the benefit of STEEM done by those who actually give a shit about the platform and not just the money. I make more than enough trading that I don't need to promote destruction. Ill power down all eight and a half inches past your tonsils though. Ungrateful.
