TacoCat's TrEats #60: Currying Flavour with Nam Kee! 🍛

Hey Steemit!

Since tasteem is still out of commission, I'm just gonna post random foods that we tried during these crazy lockdown times. We're still trying to avoid going out as much as possible even though Singapore has been slowly opening back up but you can never be too careful right.

Anyway, this was the first meal we had where we dined outside after Singapore progressed into Phase 2; when restaurants allowed in-house dining!

I had a hankering for some good curry rice so we went to the nearest restaurant in the mall that had it and that's Nam Kee Pau!

Nam Kee Pau's menu largely consists of different types of Paus, along with noodle and rice dishes, one of which is the chicken cutlet curry rice that we ordered!

The interior is fairly simple, but the decor and furniture they have is reminiscent of traditional coffee shops way back in the day; and I believe is a slightly modernised version of the original Nam Kee stall in JB.

Which looks like this btw:

At least the extra preventive measures means that you'll never get crowds in restaurants anymore, so we didn't have to wait long for our food. I saw her prepare it immediately after ordering! Which was good too, because I was really hungry!

We got our food within a minute of ordering and it smelled so good! I couldn't wait to dig in. 🤤
The curry was tasty and not spicy, and the chicken cutlet was crispy. It's not seen from this angle but the dish also comes with a fried egg.

All together it's a really tasty and hearty meal! And it's definitely a good and cheap option for filling meals in town.

So I actually posted about a similar dish (that I refer to as [Singaporean Curry Katsu](https://steemit.com/tasteem/@taco.cat/tasteem-3023df)) a couple months ago but that was from a different shop called Encik Tan.
To be fair, Nam Kee Pau is also operated by the same parent company called Fei Siong Group, so it's unsurprising that their menus are similar.

However, I believe that Nam Kee Pau initially started as a Pau (aka steamed buns) shop. I recall seeing their pau kiosks around Singapore, and it was only in recent years that I discovered they branched out into selling actual meals and had in-house dining. Apparently, they specialise in traditional handmade pau from the authentic traditional recipe of the famous Nam Kee Pau in Johor Bahru in Malaysia!

There are currently 25 Nam Kee Pau outlets around Singapore, however I think a few of them are still just the Pau kiosks which do not serve the curry rice, but do have noodles that you takeaway.

I have tried Nam Kee's paus before and they are really good as snacks. And I'd say Fei Siong's curry rice (regardless of which restaurant its from) is definitely a go-to curry rice for me. Truly satisfying - in taste and price! 😋

Thanks for reading!
