Microwave, A Novel Technique for Food Preservation (Part 7)

<p>&nbsp;Microwaves are the waves that are used for the preservation of Food. These waves have wavelength between 0.001 m to 0.3 m. This wavelength is smaller than radio waves but not smaller than infrared waves. These waves are used for Food preservation because of fast heating with less cost in terms of BTU (British Thermal Unit).&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Uses of Microwave</strong></p>
<p>Microwave have many benefits as I described them earlier. Today i will try my best to cover its uses in the Food Preservation. Microwave is used for:</p>
<p><strong>Cooking</strong></p>
<p>In cooking we need heat to change properties of Food and become eatable. Microwave also provides heat and cook the food more fast then conventional cooking.</p>

<p><strong>Microwave Blanching</strong></p>
<p>In blanching the inactivation of enzymes by heat. Same is the process here but the time required is very short then conventional method.</p>
<p><strong>Drying</strong></p>
<p>Moisture is removed by heating. Microwaves provide heat that removes moisture more instant then sun drying &nbsp;and very less or no loses than dehydration.</p>
<p><strong>Pasteurization</strong></p>
<p>Pasteurization is liquid food treatment to kill all pathogenic microbes by use of heat. Same is the process here but the time required is very short then conventional method.</p>
<p><strong>Thawing</strong></p>
<p>Thawing is basically converting the food shape from frozen to normal state so that it will be eatable. As thawing time increases, the load of microbes doubled and increased in very fast manner in thawing. So thawing time should be less. By microwaves this time decreases and our aim is also fulfilled.</p>
<p><strong>Sterilization</strong></p>
<p>Sterilization is killing the all microbes present in food. By microwave this process speed also increased and more efficient as waves have more penetration power. Microwave requires less time and is more efficient then conventional methods.</p>
