2001 in 565: Meaning to work hard
My feed seems to be stuck in slow motion there are so few posts coming through. Good, more Steem for me ;) Do people actually understand that at the moment, earning Steem on the platform is about the easiest it has been in a year? Everyone looks at the payout figure it seems and forgets that the price of Steem is irrelevant if you are planning to hold. Well, that isn't true.

A low price generally means less posters and less commenters which means less people drawing on the pool so, there is a greater chance of getting larger payouts with additional Steem in the mix. Meh, not many care, that is fine by me but, when Steem is 5, 10, 20, 50 dollars, remember all of the people who said to keep working or buy some with coffee money and, don't expect them to vote for you.

https://i.imgur.com/DbPG6jG.jpg

Of course and as I have reiterated in a million different ways: ***nothing is certain.*** Never put anything in you aren't willing to lose *completely.* For m, that is my time, effort and thoughts, which brings me to this silly milestone for today.

@Steemitboard informed my that this will be my 2001th post and as the title suggests, that is in 565 days. This puts my average posting rate at: ***3.539*** posts per day. I also have:

- ***11500+*** comments / ~20 per day
- ***36500+*** manual votes cast / ~65 per day

I have only ever really been able to talk from my experience here and I am one of those people who has consistently said that for most people, it is going to take a lot of work to get anywhere on this platform. Yes, building relationships, quality and engagement are all important but, the work involved is likely out of the reach of most people. It isn't that they couldn't do the work of course, it is just that most people these days do not invest themselves unless there is some guarantee of return. There are no guarantees here, or anywhere in life.

There are many reasons I have thrown myself into this place heavily including my daughter's health needs and the financial burdens my wife and I face for various reasons but, we cope without Steem for now and managed to keep our heads above the rising waters. The main reason is because of my [last post about meaning](https://steemit.com/philosophy/@tarazkp/dog-walk-diaries-finding-meaning) though. People may find this ridiculous but writing here and what I consider *working* here provides me meaning and purpose as I feel I am working toward something I consider important.

There is the potential for some level of financial freedom that would be gratefully welcomed. I haven't cried for a few decades but if I was able to live somewhat freely of financial hardship, I just might break the drought. However, that is not the only concern I have.

The world is changing, economies are failing, governments are struggling, automation, AI and various other factors are going to take opportunity from those that are unable to make opportunity. Decentralization and platforms like Steem will provide a chance for many to have some additional support, a revenue stream and even a trickle might make a difference, save a life. Idealistic yes but, meaningful for me.

Throw on top of this freedom of Speech, censorship, autonomy and a chance for people to provide for themselves and each other instead of relying solely on authorities to hand over resources at their leisure, and there are more reasons to be a part of this place. I know, profits are everything for many, but not everyone look for profits alone. There are more complexities in life than financial freedom.

I understand people's attitudes to investing here though, I struggle with it too. I am not unaffected by price and the tiny voice of FUD in my head is always saying, *"Fly you fool, fly!"* But, there is no Balrog, there is just a community of people that have the potential to be part of something great but, many are yet to see what opportunity they actually hold, and most waste, here. Perhaps they are right in the end to not attempt it as after all, it is a pretty big long shot. I am going long. No one else is forced to.

This is the beauty of it isn't it? There are so many opportunities for people to play and try to build yet, most will never make it. It has to be that way really as that is the way of the world. Not everyone can be a NHL, NBA or NFL star, not everyone can put in the work of Ronaldo, become a cricket legend like Bradman. Very few startups survive, very few can be a fortune 500 CEO, president of a country or world changing activist.

No matter what the position, the highest thresholds are generally a process of attrition, who can work and survive the longest and, who's luck holds out the longest to make it through without injury or other calamities. The thing is though that none of the top, athletes, business people, scientists or activists are there on luck alone, as somewhere a long the path they did the work and for the most part, the volume of work they did without guarantee is so high, most cannot even imagine it.

I can't either. The work I do here is nothing compared to what others may do in their lives but, it is also a lot more than others are willing to do and, I am willing to continue to do it until it works or, it is buried. I am not planning to live a life where I will sit back and wonder, *what of I had given it my all?* Screw that life, I will give it my all and even if I fail miserably, I will know I could do no better than I did.

That is life satisfaction, knowing you did all you could for something you believed as important. It doesn't mean it is an easy or happy path but in my opinion, people put way too much emphasis on easy and happy and much too little on what actually means something to them. So many sit and wait with their eyes closed for life to arrive, while it rushes on silently by.

My feed may be stuck in slow motion but, my mental feet are trying to keep up with the pace of life so I can sink my fingers in and hold on for the ride of a lifetime. If everyone truly worked at what they found meaning and purpose in, this world would be a much, much healthier world for everyone.

What a fantastic post , sir!

And yes, I agree with you.
'We' will be either seen as total idiots- or insightful geniuses, in the future...I am obviously hoping for the latter!

Having lived the life I have - until this last few years, steemit has provided me with a 'bigger' purpose also.
The truths I have always wanted to speak now have platform, rather than a few people listening to me rant on, while looking at each other strangely with a 'whats this idiot on about?' look on their faces..

>(A conversation in '97....Me: The intenet is gonna be the biggest thing since the wheel
Them:'The Internet?, that's not gonna change anything much. Emails are good though....')

If this does become the success we hope, I will supporting all the steemit warriors long into the future.. , and ignoring the fair weather friends.
They are 'a dime a dozen...'

I got my first computer at 16 and asked my mother for an internet connection at home. She asked my oldest brother and he said it *"is a fad"* so, I didn't get a connection despite my protests about it being needed for the future. That was 95. My brother also said that digital cameras will never replace analogue because their quality won't be good enough and electric cars will never become mainstream. I should ask him his thoughts on cryptocurrencies... :D

I like this:

>There are no guarantees here, or anywhere in life.

Life itself is a gamble. No matter how safe a job is at some point, things may change overnight. You donΒ΄t even need something wrong to happen with your job. Crap can happen, regardless.
So, I agree with your implication; the risks here are high as anywhere else.
Neat allusion to LOTR

>Fly you fool, fly!" But, there is no Balrog

Hopefully those who survive the fall will come back shinier and stronger.

This part reminds me of Ben Franklin

>I will give it my all and even if I fail miserably, I will know I could do no better than I did.

He wrote:

> I never arrived at the perfection I had been so ambitious of obtaining, but fell far short of it, yet I was, by the endeavour, a better and a happier man than I otherwise should have been if I had not attempted it.

It's good to come by and read to you, @tarazkp. You have become a part of my daily conversations and an immediate reference. These days a group of steemit's friends were talking about how little we had written lately. This is true. A few weeks ago we fell into a slumber and the price of the currency did not help either. Surely some people live or try to live from this and not seeing the economic production, because they simply lose their strength and impulse. But many people don't understand that Ronaldo, Messi and others didn't get the money overnight. They had to work to get it, without throwing in the towel. Imagine if every time things get difficult we're going to abandon them? Surely we will never reach any goal and we would not be stuck forever. Greetings

This is the problem, so many do and then think that it was because what they faced was harder than everyone else.

An excellent read, as always, Taraz. My feed has also been pretty quiet and I personally haven’t posted or interacted much in over a week. My reason has nothing to do with the current value of Steem; I’ve simply been too busy. When Jason convinced me sign up, I was hooked because it was such a refreshing alternative to other social media. I believe those of us that value Steem for reasons other than the monetary aspect will be around for the long haul. Hope you and the family are well :)

It is indeed. It is more raw than the others to be sure and I quite like it this way. The long haul is going to be pretty interesting for those that make it :)

Hmm, you are right, things seem to be a bit slow. I guess it's times like these that show you who's in it for the long run, huh?
Me, I'm a little less active than usual, I guess, but it's because I'm taking some time off to focus on some bigger writing projects that I've had in my schedule for August for months. Not really to do with the Steem price at all...But why am I trying to justify myself here?
Perhaps I'm trying to show I'm not one of "those"....Weird.

You have the right attitude at least. Yes the blockchain might not be a success but it has a great community and a plan for the future.

If it does become valuable all the time and effort you are putting in will be well repaid. And if that is to happen now is obviously the best time to be doing it. When the chain is a lot busier and there is a lot more drain on the reward pool it will be very hard to earn large amounts of steem. Hopefully the price will balance this out but the early adopters will always have the advantage.

And most of all while you can consider it work or an investment of time. The reality is that we are here because we want to be. Not like your job that you have to turn up to, here you put in the time because you want to. And those are some impressive numbers by the way.

"Screw that life"

I love how your usual philosophical tone took a back seat today.

Called for, I think. The psychological hangups that lie behind people giving less than their all are very difficult to shift, and a "Seize the day" urgent message is best delivered bluntly and often.

Those are impressive numbers. Your numbers show your dedication and consistency. Just imagine Steem going to $100 to $300 in 3-4 years time. 😉

Yes, there is a long way to go, but it helps to know the light at the end of the tunnel 🚝, so people active on Steemit remain focused and calm. Btw, STEEM is back to 90 cents if you wanted to get some. 😏

@naegling11 ·
Another well written post that I won't re-quote to death. It is so true that...
>So many sit and wait with their eyes closed for life to arrive, while it rushes on silently by.

And
>If everyone truly worked at what they found meaning and purpose in, this world would be a much, much healthier world for everyone.

By the way, I really liked your Balrog analogy.

It is so rare that one can really use a Balrog analogy that I think we should take every opportunity we can.
