At this time two years ago, my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Milan, Italy. At this time last year, we were in the intensive care unit of the hospital after the birth of our daughter with some minor complications. This time of year will always hold special memories for us for these two reasons alone, who knows what else will arrive.

But life need not be filled with travel and children to be special as every day life is filled with wonder when we take a closer look or spend the briefest moment to see what fills our daily frame. Think about the television that catches waves from the air and turns them into pictures. Yes, it would be nice if the signals transmitted were more useful than the trash it is but, that is not the fault of the technology. The mobile phone in your hand negotiates with satellites in space, the car you drive is filled with technology that has been developed over many thousands of years and likely burns fuel that is millions of years in the making. Nothing is simple.

For most products we consume, there is not a single person on earth who can create it from scratch as the fields of study and physical skills required are just to numerous for one to hold all. It is quite amazing what motivated humans can do when they choose to cooperate. 

It is easy to forget all of the skill and genius that goes into making up our world, and it is also amazing that within us, we also hold the ability to create and develop, communicate and cooperate to make this world a little better than it was yesterday. We often are eclipsed by the massiveness of some events and some people's achievements but, that should never blind us from our own nor, what we have the potential within to create.

If we could collate all of the data, just about all massive events would look quite insignificant to the compounded micro events that we all make each day and if we could shift some of our actions to ward continual improvement, society would shift enormously.

This picture from Milan has the feel of an image taken a few decades ago and makes me think that no matter the time in which we live, all are filled with their own wonder and at no time are people unable to improve themselves and the world in which they live.
