@dtube came out with a major announcement yesterday that updated their entire system.  This was not an "around the edges" improvement.  Instead, it totally revamped the entire platform.

To start, D.Tube is now on its own blockchain.  The team created this to provide greater flexibility than the Steem blockchain provides.  This is also showing dividends in the features it provides.

Please be aware, this is not a duplicate of Dlive.  D.Tube is not abandoning this ecosystem.  All posts done on D.Tube using your Steem sign in will post to Steem the same as always.

In playing with the platform a bit, I noticed a few major changes.

##### Dual Sign In
People who use D.Tube will need an account from them.  This is a bit different from the past where one used the Steem log in credentials.  Without a D.Tube account, one is not able to operate on that blockchain.  Remember, this is a separate blockchain.

Once an account is set up, it is tied to one Steem account.  This is where the dual sign in takes place.  One is able to post to D.Tube and to Steem **if desired**.  If one only opts to log in using the D.Tube sign in, the post will appear there but not in one's Steem account.  

The reason for this leads into the next change.

##### Non-original content
Steem is focused on non-original content.  In fact, it is one of the requirements according to the flagging guidelines.  

D.Tube holds original content in value as evidenced by the fact that the main account will only upvote content in that category.  The platform, however, will accept non-original videos from anywhere on the web.  This includes Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  The links can be placed in the upload section which will pull the video from where it is located.

Why would D.Tube want this?  Simple, it is looking to become a major player in the video realm.  People are apt to load videos all over the place, regardless of who owns the content.  YouTube made its mark by ignoring copyright infringement.  Even today, you can find most songs on that platform from any artist.  

I am sure D.Tube will adhere to take down notices if they receive them.  However, it is not going to penalize those who want to post a link to a non-original video.  It is in this way that D.Tube could become a major resource for those seeking video  information on the Internet.  So far, YouTube essentially has a monopoly on that.

Here is a case where one might want to post the content on D.Tube only and forgo it hitting Steem.

##### D.Tube Token
The platform has its own token.  While the blockchain is in the testnet stage, each new account receives 100 tokens to start.  This will disappear once the platform goes live.  At that point, there will be a token drop on those who supported D.Tube throughout the years.  

Having its own tokens allows the community to reward the content it wants to.  This is another layer of reward on top of what SP/SBD is earned on a post.  A video posted to D.Tube and Steem will be eligible for both.

This is a growing trend on Steem and our future.  We are getting to the point where people are going to be rewarded 2-3 times for the same content.  This will help to grow the accounts on here.

##### 100% Curation
Forget 75/25 or even 50/50.  Ignore the fantasy of eliminating self-voting.  

D.Tube went the other way.  All posts are self upvoted.  **This is a requirement.**  The reason for this is rewards for content creators is set at zero.  They get nothing,  Hence why a post of non-original content is acceptable; one does not profit from the placement of the post.

What does get paid rewarded is the curation.  Obviously having a self vote puts one in the mix for curation.  However, to get paid, it requires others to vote the content.  Absent that, the YouTube video of your favorite band will net very little.

Users are free to adjust how much of a self vote they give themselves.

Yesterday I make not how the PALTube feature is already on the D.Tube site.

This is another important aspect going forward.  D.Tube is working in conjunction with Steem-Engine on a few things.  The first is obviously the token.  The DTC is not available on the exchange yet it will be at some point.  It is likely to emerge once the team is ready to exit the testnet phase.

The second is adding a third layer to the reward that one receives.  Communities are going to be able to create their own "personalized" D.Tube.  Just like PALnet create PALTube, each community is going to have the same ability.  This means posts will not only show up on D.Tube and Steem, but also the community site.  Even though I did not try it, I will presume that a video uploaded through PALnet will automatically tag to PALnet.io.

This is all in line with the vision of providing a multitude of social media application to communities that are personal to them.  This is helping to offer the ability of "turn key" solutions to those seeking them.  In my mind, this should accelerate the adoption on here since setting up communities is much easier.

It is akin to the development curve for website dropping once Wordpress started offering that to everyone.  The fact it was so easy enabled anyone to create a website.

Soon, just about anyone can create a community that comes complete with a multitude of personalized social media tools built in.

Updates are exciting but I think they are taking a different turn.  Instead of looking at how the update applies to the application, we need to see how it fits into the whole.  The collaboration between these different applications is starting to become evident.  There is a lot being combined to create something even more powerful.

Things are starting to get very interesting around here.
