Yes! I see this as being one of the only sustainable solutions. Spread the voting power around- whales delegate some voting power to very active steemians who are doing good things. Many of us have more eyes and ears than 1 whale! I wonder what the majority of whales think about this? It seems in their best interest anyway as it will undoubtedly expand and enrich the platform! People feeling more encouraged with bigger votes on average keeps people posting and curating!! Great thought provoking post!!!

You are 100 percent correct about how the Dolphins encourage the minnows.  I have been on steemit for alittle over a week and whenever a Dolphin upvotes one of my post it really makes me feel like I am doing something right.  I have also run across Dolphins that are willing to take the time to answer questions and who genuinely take an  interest in my success.  Thank you to all the Dolphins who put the time in to search out the lowly minnows and help them out.  Keep up the good work.

I completely agree... look at China... for so long they really only had the two classes, the divide between the rich and poor was absolutely massive.... for the last 20 years though they've had an absolutely thriving middle class and not only has the Chinese economy absolutely thrived because of this, but the world's economy (especially in real estate and education) has all benefited from this.

I'm just a redfish/minnow myself, but I'm working on the @thefreshfive project that is working on new user retention... making sure new users to the platform feel heard and welcomed.  If anyone would like to delegate SP to @thefreshfive you can be sure it's going to a good cause that helps the platform as a whole.

Thanks for the information.  I'm relatively new to Steem and am still learning my way around here, but you get it.  By helping others, you help yourself.  I hope to become a Dolphin at some point in the future.  Steem has the potential to go up 50-100x if the community plays its cards right.

I have a lot further to go in becoming a dolphin if the definition starts at 5000 sp, but I think that's the status I'll strive and be happy with if I get there.

You are absolutely right! I am following a guy with my other account that makes some Unity tutorials currently. I see him get 20 upvotes but barely any money, and his voting power is still at few cents. I am his biggest upvoter. Guy I am referring to is @roundbeargames

Out of curiosity, I've been seeing a lot of accounts that are always resteeming articles and flooding their blog with them. Is this beneficial to Steemit and something I should look to do myself? The same with using voting accounts? 
To be honest I'm a bit lost when it comes to those two topics and feel like practicing writing and putting out my own posts is better as a contribution but at the same time getting behind the ecosystem seems like a much better use of my time so that we all benefit from the platform.

Great post yet again, really appreciating the info about how Whales and Dolphins effect Steemit. Also, big ups to the people who are striving to balance out the ecosystem.

I am one of the users who've received a 5000 SP delegation from @fulltimegeek and I agree with everything you've said!

I want to build my account not only to become more powerful myself, but also to delegate others to grow our whole community.

840 is the number of unique authors I upvoted last week and I would've done that even **without** the awesome SP delegation too most likely, but the upvotes would've been worth just a **fraction** without the delegation, so with this delegation it truly feels that I make a **difference**.

And that's also one of the reasons I want to delegate **others** too in the future. To give back and to grow our entire community.

Yeah, whales can't possibly support all the minnows. There's just too many new users coming in. The more dolphins we have, the better our future will be on steemit. I would love to see more whales delegating steem power to users, because it's the perfect way to spread the rewards to as many people as possible. We can't have a healthy economy if we only have a lot of whales and less dolphins.

I think otherwise you risk an incredibly imbalanced hierarchy (as you noted) or a lack of continuously meaningful interactions, which Facebook is now suffering from. While obviously we'd all love to see Steem reach FB-like levels, there are perils which we can work to avoid now.

You are as right as anyone can be. Dolphins are the real engine that can keep steem move ahead as if you go with little fished and whales there is no equilibrium in the sea. And dolphins are helping each other, are joying each day and moving ahead together. Only this way there can be a real growth on the platform without bumps and uncertainty. So, let's keep on feeding the little fishes that are working hard to become dolphins and sustain the ecosystem.

Making more dorphin for this community to thrive is really a good idea.just like what you said ,a quite number of whales are really trying to lift the minnows but they are not enough to reach out all the members.the idea of producing more dorphin if am to say is a welcome development.thanks for this post  because am sure it is going to be a sort of motivation to most whales .

You are totally right, same situation is exist everywhere. The rule of the universe "the rich becomes richer, the poor becomes poorer"..

You are right, but how many dolphins are there yet? I read in some post yesterday, that even being a minnow means, that you are already in the top 2%. So therefore I would conclude, that we need a broader base on minnows first, before even thinking of making dolphins. It´s like every good pyramid system - the top is only as strong as their base is - this is true with houses as well as any political or economic system.

Considering the time that I am trying to spend here, this post actually made me emotional.  I have been struggling to come but has been real difficult. This post gave me a sigh of relief that there are people here wanting to help others. 

I might not be necessarily looking for the same but that allocation and the distribution thing, and that economy of sharing of wealth through steem is very beautiful. 

I followed each one that you mentioned in the post except for @stellebelle . It says that the page doesn't exist. Something wrong with the internet or with the person's id?

It is realistic to have a competition all the time to be rich and poor in the economy, but I think the methods of steemit are excellent and excellent.

I completely agree with you.  As the platform grows, it will be harder and harder to grow the middle of the earnings curve, at least from a numbers standpoint.  I appreciate what is being done already and the attention that segment continues to receive from posts like this.  Hopefully we can continue to put an emphasis on it moving forward so that the overall health of the platform can continue to grow and thrive.  I think the communities will really help diversify and grow certain sectors as they should be able to "specialize" in certain areas.  We'll see how it goes.

  I also think there needs to be a little more emphasis on upvoting comments rather than just new content.  Both are important but I think people who comment are showing a much greater willingness to get involved and actually care about the health of the platform.  Too many times I see authors with $100+ on their posts while the commenters providing the bulk of the upvotes (if not the dollar amount) receive pennies, if that, for their support of the author.  It makes it a little frustrating to make the time to read posts.  Just my thoughts....  Thank you!

You're right... the middle class is needed, and so far STEEMit is inbalanced. 

This inbalance can grow with time... or not, depends on how people perceive Steemit and choose to use it.
But I think that with adoption, the distances won't be as noticeable.
