The Online market economy in Southeast Asia will exceed $100 billion!

The online market economy in Southeast Asia is booming at a time when all other sectors are stagnant in the global Corona epidemic. The region's Internet economy is booming as people shop online from home, collect food, go online for education, medical treatment and even entertainment. Recently, I read a report which published by Bain & Co in collaboration with Google and Singapore-based state-owned Temasek Holdings.

The online market economy in Southeast Asia will reach $100 billion in this year. The report cites data from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines and mentioned Covid-19 is in fact due to the consumer class stuck at home. This year alone, four crore new internet users have come from that region. In all, the total number of users in the region stands at 40 crores. As per the report, 70 percent of the residents of the region have now gone online. Southeast Asia's Internet economy has expanded five percent this year compared to 2019.
Online retailers have benefited from the coronavirus lockdown. Because people are feeling comfortable to buy products from home for fear of infection. This year, e-commerce has risen 63 percent. The number of online users in the region has increased by 11 percent compared to the past. Experts say people in Southeast Asia are now more accustomed to the Internet. As a result, they will seek and develop more Internet-centric services in the future. That is why Southeast Asia has become one of the fastest growing internet markets in the world.
