I am a newbie in this lovely community but I have taken my time to observe the activities of this lovely community and all I can say is...... I am glad to be here, and I hope I am welcomed!

The drawing above is one of my recent studies on still life compositions. I've been a huge fan of figure drawing and I've been doing much of that for over a year now but few months ago, I decided to help myself with some still life studies and that push brought about the drawing above which I made yesterday. 

### <center>MATERIALS USED.</center>

I didn't use much materials or equipment for the drawing above but I used includes:

1. Sketchpad (A4 Size) 
2. Bianyo Graphite Pencil (10B)

These two things are basically the equipment I used in making the drawing above. If you go through my blog well, you'll noticed I love scribble drawings so much and I make use of the technique so well but for my Still life studies, I have decided to make it more of graphite for now.

I started by making a quick, tiny, and rough sketch of the objects I wanted to draw. I just decided some few weeks ago that I wasn't going to base my still life studies on realism anymore.

I'll make the drawing so well and rich with the elements and principles of art such as line, contrast, balance, proportion and few more to make the piece appealing to one's sight. It might not necessarily be so vivid in terms of recognizing what object or objects were drawn but with little or more focus on the drawing, one would or should be able to tell of what are there in the drawing.

Apparently, I do smudge shading or blurry shading. I sharpen my pencil to have a very long led out and I hold it almost at the bottom. This way I can cover so much at once while shading.

As you can see at this stage, I just kept shading and graduating my tones, I keep my depth away and focus more on my middle tones while creating some little details with contrast.

I took my time do graduate my tones till I finally achieved my darkest part, a beautiful depth and contrast. Even though there isn't much details to easily tell of the objects in the drawing, the contrast achieved has made it interesting enough for the sight. 

Another thing I have come to understand in my Still Life studies is the importance of depicting shadows. Shadows in still life drawings do make the object drawn to be well understood by the viewers, and it makes it easy for the eyes to relate well with the background of the drawing.
