The world is full of chances. Many are slim. Many things must be learned by trying them over and over again. There is a whole bunch of empiric examples. If in Roulette you get a red number 8 times in a row, do you believe there will never be a black number? ![7833625712_b932d997b5_b.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbVHGjcRftwTWQ1iS7Wr9K6FocPGRsK1jYojDVyccbzhN/7833625712_b932d997b5_b.jpg) In logic it is extremely important to make a distinction between something that has to be true on a provable basis and something that is extremely likely to happen. You can never proof that the sun will rise tomorrow, since there is a 0.0...01% chance of our solar system being struck by a force we are not aware of. Sports and a lot of other things are all about believing that you will be better at some point. If I cant break a record after a hundred times, is it insane to try a 101th time? If I can't solve a problem after I tried to solve it over and over again should I just give up? What are your thoughts? Do you really believe in this definition of insanity?

A very deep thought indeed, sports, Steemit and all games are about believing you can do the impossible. It's close to a childish illusion of omnipotence which is insane in adults, but not the same thing if done correctly.

The thing about probability is that it exists within every instance. To take a slightly simpler example, if one has a 1% chance of making any given shot then it would be 'fair' to presume that one should hit once in every one hundred shots. However this is not necessarily so - and there is no reason why the first shot couldn't be the lucky shot. Likewise, since every shot taken has a 99% chance of being a miss - it is not unfathomable that a couple of hundred shots are taken without a single hit. And of course there is the little truth about being guaranteed to miss all the shots that one chooses 'not' to take. ;c) Within the context of insanity - the closest that I can think of is that situation where one tries something over and over without understanding of the underlying probabilities, expecting a different outcome. Thanks for sharing. :c)

yeah I would agree that not seeing the reason why you fail while still tripping over it again and again might be a sign that you should seek someone to maybe talk about it. I wouldn't really call it insanity though, many people do have this problem ;) And yeah not trying will always leave you with no chance at all. Also something can never be the same just similar. At least the time and place cannot be the same for something you try over and over.

Thomas Edison failed so many times in producing the light bulb that many people in his place would have given up.

I am not a big fan of Edison. To me Nikola Tesla is the true master of electricity. Thank you for the comment though, in spirit it is indeed what I meant to bring across. I just don't like Edison :3
