The odd similarities of German and Korean language 한국어 공부 시작 3
Hi! When I started with Korean, there was something about the pronounciation of consonants that threw me off. ㅂcan sometimes sound like a „p“ and sometimes like a „b“, ㄷ can sometimes sound like a „d“ and sometimes like a „t“. There are a few more Korean consonantes that follow that scheme.

After I realized the logic behind it, it reminded me of something: German! In German we have the very same thing, it is even with the very same consonants, I just did not realize it as a native speaker.

I wanted to give you some examples of what I mean, I will write the name in German put an english translation in brackets and then write the pronounciation of the word in Korean letters, I hope this helps the Korean readers to see what I mean. I also pronounce the german words at the start of the video on the bottom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Normal pronounciation „g“ example:

gähnen (yawn) 깨넌

„g“ pronounced like „k“

gucken (look) 쿠건

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Normal pronounciation „d“ example:

dick (thick) 띡

„d“ pronounced like „t“

Land (land,country)

(there are only silibels with 3 consonants and 1 vowel that follow that rule, I dont think i can put 3 consonants in a korean sign, can I?)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Normal pronounciation „b“ example:

Bibel (bible) 삐벌

„b“ pronounced like „p“

Liebling (darling) 맆린

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅅ have also similiarities to the German „s“ (sch, st ,sp, ß), but the German „s“ is hard to explain and I also struggele a little with ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅅ as you can see in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnNB0NtiwBw&feature=youtu.be

Edit: forgot the original video with the pronounciation ^^*

@lennstar ·
In Japanese there is something similar, just the other way round - it gets soft.

For example, if you take *hito* it can be pronounced *bito* like in hitobito - a really funny word ;) Normally it would be written as two 人人 but it is usual to take a repeat sign instead of the second Kanji 人々

Probably better known is *shinbun* (newspaper), which officially is written as *shimbun*, even when there is no single m (shi-m-bu-n) in the Japanese language, just n.
