December 24th, 2018, while we are completing the last preparations for Christmas Eve, it begins, first an uninterrupted seismic swarm of slight/medium tremors, then a stronger one followed by an impressing explosion. The paroxysmal event we were witnessing is truly exceptional, a cloud of ash a hundred meters high rises towards the sky while a continuous deep roar act as a soundtrack.
I quickly checked if the drone's batteries were charged, and I took off in a hurry, capturing the sequence I propose to you today. The images are explanatory of the force of nature, a superior entity with which to deal, too many times, guiltily ignored. Following the paroxysmal activity of December 24th, which lasted all Christmas day, on December 26th at about 3.20am, the strongest earthquake occurred in the whole series. The event will be classified later with a magnitude of 4.9 and a depth of just 1.2 km, a characteristic that made it devastating. I leave you with the footage and sounds captured by me that morning. 24 Dicembre 2018, mentre siamo completamente presi dai preparativi della vigilia di Natale, è iniziato tutto, dapprima uno sciame sismico ininterrotto di scosse di lieve/media entità, poi una più forte seguita da una vera e propria esplosione. L’evento parossistico a cui abbiamo assistito è davvero eccezionale, una nuvola di cenere alta un centinaio di metri si leva verso il cielo metre un rombo continuo fa da sottofondo.
Giusto il tempo di verificare se le batterie del drone fossero cariche che decollo in tutta fretta, immortalando la sequenza che vi propongo. Le immagini sono esplicative della forza della natura, un’entità superiore con cui fare i conti troppe volte, colpevolmente ignorata. A seguito dell’attività parossistica del 24 Dicembre, protrattasi per tutto il giorno di Natale, il 26 Dicembre alle 3:20 circa si è verificato il sisma più forte di tutta la serie. L’evento verrà in seguito classificato con una magnitudo di 4.9 e una profondità di soli 1,2 Km, caratteristica quest’ultima che lo ha reso devastante.
