In the restaurant guide it is described as: Pancake House with booths & classic decor, serving generously portioned savory & sweet pancakes.

I had been to this restaurant several times, and usually I take my visitors to Vienna there. It is traditional Austrian food from the various provinces as well as basic Viennese dishes such as Wiener Schnitzel.

The English translation calling it a Pancake House is somewhat misleading, because the main dish, called [Palatschinken](https://www.austria.info/uk/things-to-do/food-and-drink/favourite-austrian-recipes/palatschinken-austrian-pancakes), has not much in common with pancakes (as Americans would know them), but is more like what the French call crepes.  In the Czech Republic where they originally came from to the Viennese kitchen they are called palačinky.

The Viennese kitchen is very rich and varied, since alongside its own specialties, it adopted (and also adapted) the foods from the former Habsburg Empire. 

I ordered the smaller portion of my first dish (one, instead of 2 crepes), starting with a filled crepe stuffed with deboned goose meat (something that is seasonal: the "Martini goose") chestnut and apples  served with red cabbage,  and cranberries.

I almost forgot to take a picture, having cut into the crepe already .....
I planned to have a sweet dish to follow, and selected a "Grüner Veltliner" white wine (a ¼ l carafe)  which would go well with both dishes. 
The goose crepe was delishious and I questioned my decision of only ordering the smaller portion. I would have wanted more.  The dish was prepared to perfection, the meat tender and tasty, and the red cabbage was like my grandmother used to make it.

The view in front of me of the bar - there are several rooms. The place is cozy - actually it was the first time I sat inside. All other visits were during warmer weather when I sat on the terace.

After letting the goose crepe settle and having a few more sips of the excellent wine, I ordered the Styrian Apfelschmarren (untranslatable - it is a scrambled dish with pan fried apple slices and cinamon sugar - similar to [Kaiserschmarrn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiserschmarrn ) - which is also on their menu). 
I was not disappointed, it too was very delicious, and I was cutting the sweet with occasional sips of the semy-dry Veltliner.  I am glad I left room for it.

To finish off the meal, I ordered a "large brown" coffee, and in typical Viennese fashion, it was served with a glass of water on the side.

And ladies: </center>I am sorry, I do not know or have the phone number of the Italian gentleman that sat on the next table, enjoying a Wiener Schnitzel!

So I had 2 dishes, a carafe of wine and coffee, but no sticker shock: the bill came up to € 21,60.

The service was curteous, professional and quick and very attentive to details.  The waitress had a winning smile and seemed to be able to sense whenever you needed something and was there, but without being intrusive. This to me was worth a generous tip.

All in all, it was a great dining experience - as I expected it to be, since I had been there before. The quality of the food and service had always been excellent, even on busy days.  The prices are more than reasonable for the location this place is at - downtown Vienna seems otherwise on the pricey side.  This one is a bargain!

The place is on a side street near this, the Rotenturmstrasse, lit with Christmas decorations. A short walk down from there was my U-Bahn (Metro) Station to take me home.
