<em>Eye of the Beholder</em> is a title that never saw release on the Commodore 64, for whatever reason upon release in 1991 SSI only saw DOS and Commodore Amiga as worthy platforms. Later on we would see Eye of the Beholder ports for the Super Nintendo, Sega CD, and overseas the PC-98 (and then there was the unreleased Atari Lynx version). Par for the course though, independent homebrew developers have taken it upon themselves to port <em>Eye of the Beholder</em> to new platforms - the Commodore 64 for instance.

Right now, Andreas Larsson is only able to show off the title screen, introduction, and some early gameplay in his latest video. Over the last three months we have seen a total of three videos showing off various bits of his port of <em>Eye of the Beholder</em> for the Commodore 64.

What has been shown so far is quite impressive and shows that the Commodore 64 could have handled a port of <em>Eye of the Beholder</em> back in 1991/1992. That is had SSI saw fit to expend the resources to make it happen. They didn’t and that brings us to Larsson’s port.

As you can see in the video above, this port is impressive and very true to the source material. Much more true than the Game Boy Advance version that we saw in 2002. That version took battles out of the first person view and gave them a more “Gold Box” inspired angle. Nothing like what <em>Eye of the Beholder</em> fans were looking for. Larsson’s port is nothing like that, looking to be very close to the source material so far. That is great news for fans.

While it is just the title screen and introduction sequence shown, it shows a tremendous amount of care and interest from Larsson to create something true to the original. As a fan I cannot be more thankful for that.
