Still tobacco can be harmful unless smoked very occasionally. But to be fair, everyone should know what commercial cigarettes are all about in 2018, so no one is really tricked unless they allow themselves to be.

The problem is the hundreds of chemicals that are added to GMO tobacco to very intentionally make consumers sick and addicted. 
Pure tobacco itself does not have the harmful side effects modern humans attach to cigarettes. In fact, it is well respected as a master plant in indigenous cultures and used in spiritual ceremonies.
