At the time I am writing this introduction, we are at block 12,243,925 in the Ethereum network. In exactly 75 blocks from now, at block height 12,244,000 the Berlin Hard Fork will take place, and we will be one step closer to Ethereum 2.0, something many of us look so much forward to! I am actually running an Ethereum node myself, and because of this Berlin Fork, I had to update the software on my node, in order for it to be compatible with the hard fork. As a result, there might be quite a lot of nodes in trouble later today, as the software on their nodes will not be ready and updated for the changes that are about to take place. Luckily, there is a project named StrongBlock running almost 20,000 Ethereum nodes, and they just reported that every single one of them is now up to date and ready for the fork, so I don't think we have to worry too much!  **Update: The fork took place around 12:05 (CET) on April 15th).** ## Will the Berlin Hard Fork influence me? This is not an important fork, for the average user. It is not a coin splitting in two. Instead, it is taking Ethereum one step closer to the highly anticipated 2.0 fork, which will make mining unnecessary as Ethereum will turn into a Proof of Stake chain instead of Proof of Work. This will be a good time for the environment (considering all the electricity used by Ethereum miners), but I guess the miners who are currently making loads of money due to the extreme gas fees will be sad about this fact. Actually, they have already been fighting against the Berlin fork, as this already will remove some of their fees, thus making mining less profitable. But, I don't think we have to feel very sorry for them, because they will still make lots of money until Ethereum 2.0 will be launched (sometime before the end of 2021). *Small update, it is now only 35 blocks left before the fork will take place.* ## We are moving towards lower gas fees... Unfortunately, we will not notice this much by now when it comes to lower gas fees. The big joy will come with the 2.0 fork. But, still, it is like knowing that we are moving in the right direction and that there is joy at the end of the tunnel (just like we hope the vaccines will help us get out of this COVID misery once and for all). hi @unbiasedwriter, we have to wait and see what happens because if gas tariffs go down in (Ethereum), NTFs will benefit on the other hand coins like ADA could suffer a drop in their prices.

Yeah, it will make it more attractive again to use the Ethereum network for NFTs and transactions in general if the gas prices fall. But, I don't think it will be a great danger to the other blockchains, there is space for everyone... after all, it is about blockchain technology going mainstream, and lots of blockchains are needed for this to happen!

Wow this is very interesting, if with this update they manage to control the commissions and they go down, it can be an interesting scenario for other blockchains like Binance Smart Chain for example, and of the reaction of the investors in that chain.
