I agree. Need to find a way to get quality over quantity without discouraging people from participating.

I think the only viable solution (my opinion of course) is to enforce the rules very strictly.  Meaning, wrong tags, not saying open mic clear in the beginning, not adding it to luzcypher's post, not upvoting said post, etc. The video is not in the running for the week...

I honestly kind of expected this to happen, Luzcypher works really hard every week listening and upvoting all entries, and with today's Steem prices a low effort video of me mumble making a couple of Steem is great ROI.

I'm not trying to put anyone down, it's just that openmic is about supporting musicians, music... and not a quick buck, that will only hurt it's sustainability.

I agree @verbal-d. I am looking through the openmic section on the regular for my own reasons and I am surprised at some of the entrees. I play guitar + I sing (badly) therefor I keep that shit at home where I can enjoy my enthusiastic, heartfelt caterwauling in the privacy of my own metaphorical X-factor judging booth. Really though, I'm a poet first and musician last 😉 Maybe you guys need a consolation prize for the most X-factor-ish self deluded post

I also sifted through quite a lot of shit this week, I usually check out the other originals on display and anything that looks interesting. I was overwhelmed by the amount of low quality entries. Its going to be a problem as it's a monetized competition and also you want to **keep the barrier for participation low to give everyone a fare crack at it.** One solution could be only live instruments for the open mic and maybe all those none musicians doing poor quality karaoke can start there own karaoke weekly.  The only exception could be accapella without backing tracks. My 2cents.

I feel bad. My entry was so-so, but it was everything I could muster up. I will deliver a better one on my next entry. Apologies. X

I can understand the hard work and all the things that you said brother, but something is missing here, and as a music producer, I myself was a judge when singers came and asking me to record their vocals for them in past and I was listening to different genres and different vocals and helping them how to sing ... I just don't understand the rules of openmic? even if someone like me is 0 talented in vocal and have an ugly voice ever in the world! I still don't know how you guys choose the best vocal in here? is it about tone? low voice is bad and high voice is good? some judges don't like harsh vocals ? is it about faces ? I really dont get it! and the things that I said right now is not only my problem, I also heard it from other steemians and we had some talk about it too! and I think if john Lennon or Leonard Cohen were alive and could add an entry to openmic they would lose because if you go right now and listen to their musics, for example Leonard cohen speak on his songs while a band playing behind him ... or John Lennon sing false! and sing like talking ... and if Adele or Celine dion for example add an entry, they will win because they sing all the notes with great vibration control and loud and powerful voices!

I believe that everyone has a unique vocal! and I understand that some tones are familiar and lovely to ears and those kind of voices are more acceptable by people than other voices!

If the singers that I named and said they are talking on their music were not famous or had no opportunity to rise and grow! nobody would accept them as musicians or singers ...

sorry brother but these are my criticism on openmic! I also wish that you guys could find a way if limited the number of entries or anyway! but just please tell the musicians or singers what is their faults! then they can change it! they can fix it or learn from you guys! :)

and before I forgot, I saw that openmic don't like covers equal to originals, its not bad, but if you hear what Kurt Cobain did with original music of David Bowie then you wouldn't say that Covers are not equal to originals ... sometimes some people improve a cover. and It maybe not me, but I believe that there are people who exist!

I believe that any musician or singer has two choice : 1- independence way (spending money on his works) 2- finding an sponsor to support his works!

in this part I wanna tell you guys a little about myself but I never wanted to talk about myself but well I feel like maybe you would like to hear a little more feedback .... it was two times that two person made me believe in my vocal : first one was a student of art and music and second one was a pianist who wrote a book of theory of music with his new techniques which he also showed them on his piano to me ... so then I thought maybe my voice has something in it that they said that. I was singing while my friend (a guitarist teacher ) playing a guitar in a classroom and when we went out that old pianist with surprise said who was singing : I said it was me ... then he said you have a great vocal ... I was even wonder ... but from the time I sing in openmic I felt like they lie to me or I don't know ...
